err a shock vavled and setup to an nc30 ideally.

rs250 is probably going to be underspung and the cbr600 over / about the same.. but the valving might need doing on both.

thats if you want it to function properly as a good upgrade to a shock.

if you just want something that feels better than a clapped out old shock then stick anything in there. but by the time you reconfigure a half decent shock to work on the nc30 you are more often than not close enough to buying one that would be setup right in the first place.

it depends a lot on where your actually riding.. for normal road riding even the most clapped out old shocks are still fairly usable.. i had no trouble on my 30 year old 250cc big scooter keeping up with modern 400s kitted out with ohlins on some twisty mountain roads vs my stock honda tat.

if your on a track and pushing the bike to the limits and cant afford any minor upset to the bike else risk binning it then getting the shock sorted out is 2nd only to brakes and tyres.

if your set on the above shock(s)

id start by looking at their lenghts to see if they will go in ok if you havent already done so.. then look at the springs on them and the weights of the bikes they came off

Thanks neo.its the springs which im thinking on most.its only for road riding and the shock on it atm is rebuilt(about 18 months ago)standard late type and works fine.but these shocks have come up and im more thinking on the rs one.with ohlins spring for my weight..i would like the wp one but dont want chop my undertray up because of comp bottle is built in.the rs one is remote and same lenth hose as nc.so would go for that.i have adjustable dog bone so getting ride hight is no probs but the sachs shock is underdamped..but is brand new.........

Both of those shocks will be undersprung and under damped, it goes on linkage setup not weight/size of the bike. You could just respring them but RS shocks always use to blow seals over time when a heavier spring is fitted, im sure the CBR one will do too over time as with all the other retro fit shocks fitted with heavy springs.
As neo said buy a proper one but IMO if your late shock has just been rebuilt id keep that over a shock not designed to work on the bike.

Yes.guess your right there.there is nothing wrong with the standard one but may go for the rs one and get it rebuilt/resprung as a upgrade when i can afford a hrc link.(i did get promised one along with a genuine mph clock but it got sold without the person even telling me!!!.nice)..thanks for replies guys..

The rs250 shock when rebuilt requires the damping rate modified by additional shim or shims as well as a heavier spring .
I've run one that was rebuilt resprung/reshimmed but lately noticed its gone off as DM says its probably blown the seal and needs redone .

Cheers for that dave.did you find it a better shock with the spring/re-valve done than a good standard one?..and how long has it been since it started to go of since the rebuild?

This was the second one I've had the first one I bought from eBay sent it off to get rebuilt and was told it was scrap as damper rod was bent. This one I bought from a forum member resprung etc and it's been good until now the increase ride iheight in jacking up the back makes a difference I have a penske from a track bike I'm going to swap over and get the sachs redone for another bike Tbh it's a budget unit designed for a lighter bike when you factor in costs to make it work on an nc30 if it was me I would save for a new nitron or the s1000r shock and hrc linkage.

Ok cheers..fack it.made my mind up.i wont go for either now.i was thinking of the bm shock from the begining but as was searching about i seen those 2 and thought 'hmm..maybe'but now after hearing about them being unreliable its made my mind up...i was tempted by that wp cbrr one tho ;) ..if i didnt have to chop the undertray up i would have it by now!!.so think im gunna go with a s1000rr shock.resprung with a hrc link..ker-ching...oh dear..sigh... :peace: .cheers

Best budget peformance option IMO would be a bmw shock as they come with a hrc rep link.
