Suzuki gsxr1000 flywheel upgrade
Hi all,
Just a quick one,
Im interested in doing the GSXR1000 alternator and flywheel mod to my bike,
Has anyone done this, and is there a good difference you feel? Its kinda expensive so if there's not much change i may give it a miss. £200 from Rick Oliver if im correct

It just makes the bike feel abit more lively if I'm honest. Won't give the bike anymore power as such but just makes it feel more eager to rev. It is a good mod but £200 is just for the outer casing etc for the conversion, you still need to buy the correct flywheel and windings seperate so will add up to a lot more.
If your bike is standard in my opinion I would maybe put the money towards an aftermarket can and jetting plus a gearing change before I went down the flywheel upgrade.

I have purchased a full micron race system and the relevant main jets so that will be going on in spring time along with a K and N air filter mod (which means a bit of chopping and changing to the original air box), I though the whole set (rotor, alternator and casing) was that much, danm , but if its just the casing it slightly to much for my pocket and for what it will do for the bike... Was your gearing change with a 14 front tooth? rather than standard 15?

Without spending an arm and leg on some super rare engine parts (Which make it not really rideable on the street anymore) you wont really get much more than low 60s even with a clean well setup bike.
K&N filter for these bikes is a big waste of money too, no more power and seriously nightmare results if you start messing around with the airbox.
I've run a GSXR Rotor, tried more carbs / airbox setups / exhaust systems than you can imagine.
As long as your bike is healthy and making mid - high 50s in the HP then all the faffing around you do you wont really notice on the road.
The mods like lighter flywheel and open carbs and what not allow the engine to spin up a bit faster and get the power down quicker but don't really give anymore power... only real benefit is on a race-track when you are doing competitive racing and every bit helps.
My advice after much time and money, for anyone using an nc30 on the road would just be to fit a half system and up the jets by possible 1 size, with a freer flowing system you can really feel the bike pull much more cleanly through the rev range over a stock system.
Apart from that id save my money for bearings / tyres / chains and replacing suspension etc.
Unlike a lot of bikes and cars that leave the factory in a state of downtune these bikes were already pretty strung-out frmo stock so there is little you can do without getting into racing (and not street) teriroty that gives noticeable power.
For example the Race version of the 30 makes 80hp, 20 more than stock, but it idles at 4000rpm and the bike is geared towards being ragged all the time.

Stock genni covers can be made to work with the gsxr stator and flywheel if you can live without the bling

After the feedback form you guys I have decided to NOT go with the GSXR flywheel mod as theres not alot of "bang for you buck" -- and its alot of buck....
I have assessed the mods i really want to do and that is :
- Micron full system
- Bigger main jets
- Modify the original OEM air filter to have a force induction scoop - (Not KandN)
- Q/A throttle
Thats all, and i have all these parts ready apart from the Q/A throttle which im still looking for the right one.
Then Dynotime!!! :)

I've got all the mods in the world (It seems like) and the biggest things that made my bike go better - full system, properly setup carbs and standard filter - K&N do fuck all IMO for these bikes. Only "benefit" is that you could clean it. bothers me not.
I have the GSXR genny - it works. does spin up faster and the response is great. It is probably about 40% of the feeling that total loss brings you.
On your forced induction idea - bin that. Not worth it. Get an HRC air tray to shield the carbs from the motor and let the cooler air into the under tank space. forced induction - no.

You are saying you have managed with a full race system, larger main jets and a standard air filter with no mods and your bike runs ok? If so it a plus as no air filter mods is saving time and money, Or did you go with the HRC airtray aswell to allow it to run with no flat spots?

my bike has evolved a fair bit over the years and has ended up with a full system, HRC air tray and standard airbox and filter using NC30 carbs. Runs lovely.
I;ve had RVF carbs, open airboxes, half systems and so on. The bikes are great and do not need much to get them tip top - fine tuning instead of major work.

Ill try the standard air box as it is ,when on the dyno if there are any flat spots i will order a HRC airtray too, Hopefully that will be it then! :)
