NC30 lights bracket

Post by BowenNC30 »

Hello, I am restoring a UK NC30. I noticed the handle bar was hitting the speedo. On looking i found a bent bracket that holds the lights and dials. I have looked for a replacement part but as this is a uk spec. it is different from the grey one. I have an extra bracket for a small radiator. I have looked at the repos and they look different. My only thought is to grind the rad. bracket off and weld it to a secondhand one. Can any body suggest where i can find a uk one?

You might have trouble sourcing a replacement UK spec bracket it's quite a heavy bit of kit Seems a bit over engineered for carrying indicators and oil cooler IMO probably best to try and get it straightened out Which might take a bit of flaffing around with heat trial fitting and then repainting/powder coating etc sounds like bike has had a heavy frontal at some time if your positive it isn't the bars/clamps or yokes that are askew causing the problem .

Thanks for the advice Dave. Without doubt it’s the bracket; it’s more bent than a VW emissions test. I knew it had a slight slide before I got it, but as you say you suspect it’s had a heavy crash I will take another look at the rest of it.
Cheers mate.

The unfortunate thing is anyone who has a spare now might be reluctant to sell just in case of the worst befalling them .
If its the main bar that bolts to the headstock that's goosed and cannot be sorted might be worth sourcing a known good JDM one and getting the lamps mount welded on to that one if you can or know of someone able to do it for you.
It's a bit of a head fuck as the only way I can think of doing it is getting it tacked in position first then refitting all the fairing screen brace mirrors to ensure all OK before welding .

I have two UK spec bikes one awaiting resto each time I look at all the extra crude brackets for indicators rear number plate mount can't help thinking how much does all this crap to conform with the UK lighting regs/rules actually add in weight over a JDM it all looks to me like a rushed solution by Honda at the time to conform to certain European market rules a case of function over form if ever.

I looked at the repo ones on e-bay and they are different, not just the rad bracket but also they don't have the cut outs. There is a very dirty grey one on e-bay but it looks bent too. I have asked a few people breaking them but as of yet no reply. In a way its a shame I choose a UK bike as my first build as bits are hard to find, maybe I should have started with a grey so I could have changed it to the way I would have liked it. I kind of feel I got to keep it original. It will not beat me, that bike will be on the road next year...... not saying what month but it will be running though.

Hi Dave, seeing as you have two UK bikes can you might be able to answer my other questions? Did the UK bike only come with white mirrors? I have looked around and theses really are rocking horse shit. Also I read about the rear light being different. I think the number plate has a separate light. If so, should my rear light have the clear strip at the bottom? Cheers

The white mirrors are rc30 mirrors the UK bike same style but black the rear light is similar but with a darkened out strip on the underside it's the tailpiece joiner that doesn't have the middle strip between the light lens probably for the aforementioned market regs at the time.

My mind has now gone numb, why on earth did I think they were white? Thanks for the rear lights info. Seeing as you have two UK bikes, I don't suppose you have a photo? From what you have told me, mine is wrong. I think this bike has a hidden past.
