NC30 Exhaust system - Seeking advice
Hey guys,
I used to be a member here for a while about 10 years ago, but I've not on the forum for a number of years
I still have my Castrol NC30, but it's been off the road for a few years now due to the rear shock being fooked and it made the bike dangerous to ride. No gas in the shock. I want to get the old girl back on the road again, but the exhaust has gone in the usual place where the down piped meet the rest of the system. The slotted clamps a have rotted away, not completely, but enough that I have popping, farting bike at idle. I would like to keep my bike as original as possible, and would like to get the exhaust repaired, rather than fitting a rather expensive Tyga system or similar.
Does anybody know if new sections could be welded on to the old system? I've read that it might be possible with a carbon arc welder?
In the meantime I'm going to try a gun gum bandage wrap to get it running again. Looking on ebay, it looks like getting a replacement system, even second hand will still cost a good few pounds, but that's always an option with a view to getting the original system repaired at a later date.
If I can get the exhaust fixed, I'll buy the cheapest Nitron shock for it, that should be fine for my road use.
What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance!!

Hi, I mig welded some stainless pipe onto mine after I cut the old rusty mild steel bits off. I've never tried welding stainless with carbon arc so cant help there sorry.
Nitron shocks seem good never had a problem with mine. Rick oliver maybe able to get you a good deal on one.
Cheers

Hey Morespeedvicar,
O.K. thanks, I didn't know the exhaust could be mig welded as well, I'll need to look into that. I bought the bits from Halfords today to do the temporary exhaust wrap, which will hopefully hold it together long enough to get it MOT'd and get a few hot and cold cycles through the engine.
Once I've got the exhaust done, I'll contact Rick, see if he can help with the niton shocker
Thanks!!

Hi, why not spend a little more on another uncut exhaust system and leave any temp solutions so money better spent?

Re: NC30 Exhaust system - Seeking advice
If I knew where I could find another uncut system, I'd buy it, as long as it didn't cost too much, but it seems original systems in good condition are very hard to come by.

Re: NC30 Exhaust system - Seeking advice
have had NC30 and NC35 exhausts repaired at the weak point - replaced the rusted part with stainless and stainless clamps too
Re: NC30 Exhaust system - Seeking advice
Cool, Did you get the parts welded with a mig welder as well?
I did the temporary repair earlier today and it seems to be holing up, which is surprising, but it won't last that long I suppose.
What's the trick to getting the exhaust header bolts out? Heat, and lots of it? If so, I'll need to take it to a friend with a good heat torch.
Thanks!!

Plenty of plusgas.lots of it over 3-4 days.dont try without doing that!!
Re: NC30 Exhaust system - Seeking advice
Thanks!! I'd never even heard of Plusgas until you mentioned it, but it sure gets a good name. I'll get myself a can and give that a go. Next step, see if I can get the old girl though an MOT.

Plusgas / freeze release spray etc will help removing them if they are corroded in.
One of the members on here is a professional welder, i cant think of his name if he is stilll about but he was doing an nc30 exhaust repair service of manufacturer quality.
the replacment collar dimentionss have been posted up before so if you can get some steel / stainless in that size you can get it welded on by anyone i suppose.
