VFR on ebay - Am I missing something here?

Post by GorillaBiscuit »

Hi all, this is my first post. I will shortly be in the market for an NC30 and have been browsing this site soaking up what info I can.

I found this VFR on eBay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1992-HONDA-VF ... 3f494fe368

And i'm curious as to why the asking price is so much? Low mileage it may be but there doesn't appear to be a straight panel on there - is that a dent in the tank too?

I'd appreciate some help finding a good one and towards the end of the month i'll be looking to buy one assuming I pass my mod2. If anyone knowledgable on these bikes minds dropping me a PM it'd be great if I could run some by you closer to the time. Cheers!

The mileage on the speedo is irrelevant as the seller has no way of proving it. As you mention it looks like it's been crashed and hastily resprayed and it seems to have be tinkered with somewhat (several non-standard parts) in the past, what suggests that it hasn't done a thousand odd miles in its lifetime.

Take the low mileage out of the equation and you've got a bike which is probably worth around a grand in the real world, especially as it will probably cost a few hundred quid to recommission it and get it back on the road.

That bike is a classic example of a shed with doctored clocks in the hope to lure some born again biker hitting a midlife crisis.

Thanks, I thought it looked a bit of a heap! Interesting you mentioned the cost to register it etc, is this quite a hassle/expense? Also, I've heard different stories about Insurance on grey imports - some say they're expensive/impossible to insure and others that there's no difference at all?

It's a wreck.

but.. those are actually Japanese rc30 spec clocks as they go upto 300km/h.. bolt on replacmeent but no way its done 2600km...

that was probably bought out of a Japanese auction for about 500 quid.

might have had the mileage on the original mot sheet but seller wont have / or pass on that info
