Petrol tap rebuild

Post by socket13 »

when I first got my NC30 I noticed there was fuel in the oil,so after changing the oil it started up and run ok,so in an effort to stop the problem I stripped and rebuilt the carbs including fitting new correct jets, replacing float needles and seats, also overhauling the petrol tap with a Rick Oliver complete kit, just for further piece of mind I put a vacuum gauge on the tap and turned it on and fuel flowed, turned it off and it stopped.Thinking I had cured the problem I locked the workshop and had a celebratory beer, the next morning I was greeted by a strong smell of petrol coming from the workshop and discovered a pool of petrol on the floor having leaked from the tap even though it was in the off position, when I fitted the tap kit I rebuilt it the same way it came apart, but after looking at some of the work the previous owner had carried out on the bike,I am wondering if they had pulled the tap apart and put it together in correctly and me in my ignorance did the same with the new kit, this problem is driving me nuts but I am sure it will be worth it when the bike hits the road again. So I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem or any experience of rebuilding the fuel tap,any info/advice gratefully received!

Check out http://www.akhara.com/nc30/fueltapmod/index.html. This page talks about the HRC bypass mod, but you will see how a stocker is supposed to go together as well.
