Gearing for an FZR 400/600 conversion

Post by hardhat_harry »

Hi all

I have a 3EN2 with an 600 HE engine.

I notice its still running the 846 chain 43 Tooth rear sprocket and I want to change the whole thing to 520, plus gear it to the 600 engine

Does anyone know what front and rear tooth count should be good for a 600 engine in 520 pitch with 18" wheel but not overgeared?

Cheers

HHH

Kayla from Projection Components should be able to help you but failing that try B+C Express

The 3HE and 3EN2 wheels are virtually identical.
The std 600 sprocket is 15 tooth, rear 46.= 3.07:1
std 3EN2 is front 19. rear 55= 2.89:1

Front Rear Ratio Torque Speed
15T 44T 2.93 -4.5% +4.5%
15T 45T 3.00 -2.2% +2.2%
15T 46T 3.07 ------------------
15T 47T 3.13 +2.1% -2.1%
15T 48T 3.20 +4.2% -4.2%
15T 49T 3.27 +6.1% -6.1%
15T 50T 3.33 +8.0% -8.0%

Track use....I would go 15/48 in 520 chain
Road use........15/47 in 530 chain.....brisker acc slightly and longer lasting chain.

I hope no-one used it on the 428 ?(from your post) sprockets......90+ horsepower through that chain is v.risky to put it mildly.

ADDITION; if you get a renthal front sprocket you would be advised to get a spare lockwasher.
Sometimes Renthal use a sprocket that fits both Kawasaki and Yamaha output shafts...the Kwak spec is fractionally thinner and is a tad loose on the shaft when nut is tensioned.
Use the spare washer behind the sprocket.
Also; 600 fzrs are noted for the retaining nut coming losse a buggering the shaft threads.
Upgrade to an r6 nut...it has marginally more threads.

Cheers Will

Would 14/46 in 520 be a better option than 15/48?

You want "Gear commander"

http://www.sprocketcalculator.com/

14/46 is;

Front Rear Ratio Torque Speed
14T 44T 3.14 -1.8% +1.8%
14T 45T 3.21 +0.4% -0.4%
14T 46T 3.29 +2.6% -2.6% ....................................................
14T 47T 3.36 +4.7% -4.7%
14T 48T 3.43 +6.7% -6.7%
14T 49T 3.50 +8.6% -8.6%
14T 50T 3.57 +10.4% -10.4%
15T 44T 2.93 -9.1% +9.1%
15T 45T 3.00 -6.7% +6.7%
15T 46T 3.07 -4.3% +4.3%
15T 47T 3.13 -2.1% +2.1%
15T 48T 3.20
15T 49T 3.27 +2.0% -2.0%
15T 50T 3.33 +4.0% -4.0%

Once you start going smaller than 15 on the front you are torturing the chain by spinning it over a smaller radius.

Bigger on the rear would be the way forward with 90 horse input.

I used 15/47 on my hybrid at Cadwell, which is good for around 150mph with loads of shove
