Clutch Question - Wierd
Hi All,
Got to replace the clutch on my NC35. Removed the plates and realized there were only 9 friction and 8 plain plates... Should be 10 and 9 right?
So I inserted new plates 10/9 and the rest of the assembly.
Now the problem:
The clutch doesn't work. It looks like the push rod is ... too short !?!? - is this even possible?
Basically there is no resistance on the clutch lever and the push rod doesnt seem to be pushing enough. The lifer plate moves alright but not far enough to lift the pressure plate.
I have not tried on running engine. I want to make sure its all done correctly before I put the cover on and waste the gasket.
Is running engine gonna make any difference?
Im not sure if Im being clear enough but this is the best explanation I can do.
I will appreciate any help.
Thanks
PS
My guess is, if the previous owner was running on 2 plates less than prescribed by Haynes, he might have installed a shorter push rod? - probably a stupid guess but I can figure out anything else...

on the clutch rod end there is a little doofer that locates in the dooberry that you twist and which then pushes the rod.
Is this in place?

Re: Clutch Question - Wierd
It is. There is that pin that goes out and pushes the rod once the cable is pulled. There is not much movement though, probably about 1cm - is this correct you reckon?
sorry for writing i two sections... got a little desperate as the bike was supposed to run this weekend.

I reckon it might push more than that..
make sure the rotating bit is nice and clean - I was chasing this for a while when I did mine...and it was the little doofer..

Yeah, Ive bee through the whole thing 20 times since last night. The cable 'puller' can only be installed in one way i think. I dont see how this can be installed to push the rod further.
Im really confused here. I hope this is something simple I could fix myself.
I'll make some pics tomorrow morning so you can see and maybe identify some obvious mistakes I made.

i had the same problem, you need to take off the cover on the front sprocket side and you should see a cap for the end of the push rod. it usually falls off and is laying in all the chain lube and gunk inside the sprocket cover

Re: Clutch Question - Wierd
do you mean the short kind of pin that comes out from the cover and pushes the rod? That is in place as stated before. Is there anything else between this and the rod? Thanks for your post.

Re: Clutch Question - Wierd
there is the vertical shaft that you twist to push the rod - between this and the rod there is a little cup kind of doobery that sits on the pushrod.

Hey guys please look at the pics.
http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/maciek.ol ... AygpkWOn7M#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This is the complete assembly. 10 friction and 9 plain plates.
The diaphram springs got flattened once the center nut placed
Can you see anything wrong there?
There is also that short clip. - check if the movement is correct.
Thanks!

Re: Clutch Question - Wierd
NC35 fiche has them down as 9 and 8..
NC30 fiche has 10 and 9.
Don't know why I never looked earlier..
I would say, drop the extra plates and go from there..
Sorry for the crap initial advice...got to keep it simple I guess!
