Will FZR600 exhaust fit a 400

Post by Timbot1 »

Hi seen a couple things on here but has anyone actually fitted an FZR 600 exhaust onto a 400 just looking at this as an option as 600 exhausts (used) seem more readily available. My 400 is a 3en1 with no exup valve and a work in progress at the moment.
Thanks in advance.

I think they are bigger top to bottom as the 600 barrels are taller, it will stick out under the fairing.

Your bike looks in nice condition.

I would not be fitting 600 header pipes and having to chop up nice bottom fairing panels to get them to fit.

By your other post you are looking for more torque at low rpms anyhow because the Exup is missing from your system.

I would be all over this like a rash if I required a system for a 3EN1.

I think you get a choice with downpipes, you buy it or you regret it. I did a 3EN2 a few years ago and saw a system on ebay, it was expensive but the whole project would have stalled without it.
Your bike will be better with the exup as well.

Thanks again guys. Not really willing to take the chance on a second hand exhaust from the state's costing over £200 plus may get stung with customs charges as well. If I am looking at that much spend I would probably go for a new complete system, think the company is called Sandy bike spares they do one for the 3en1

No Exup fitted to the pattern system...not worth the bother of fitting.

As Evil stated....fit the correct system or forever rue the fact that the bike is gutless under 8K rpm.

Do you think £200 expensive for a used a system with valve and cables?
It's not the price of a pair of tyres or 10 tanks of fuel.

Like I said wouldn't take the risk of buying one from the States for various reasons. I will keep researching

We have heard of a difficulty with sandy pipes

I understand about spending out on those pipes. Second hand parts aren't taxable on import

Ok it was a while ago. The retaining brackets that bolt to the head bent, I don't know if they were over torqued or not and I don't know if sandy did anything to replace them or if the design has changed since.
Most of us at some point have been in your position. The problem is the engines are designed with exup and are gutless below 8k rpm without it, despite what people say. A set of pipes will turn up its just when and their condition. Why not make the guy in the US an offer or look at a part finder site.
