Valve Clearances. Give it a go! :)

thought i would throw on this useless topic as i am bloody pleased at my losing my valve clearance virginity :D . Plus as some encouragement to any that are a bit scared at doing it.
gotta say, vipers guide is spot on, so i would suggest on following it, still handy to have your haynes beside you (i found it to be a good coffee cup mat

)
gave myself a whole day(so not rushed - worst you could be), lots of coffee and plenty of metallica and rory gallagher on in the background :D .
its really pretty easy, just time consuming, and a bit fiddly with only 2 shims, the front 2 cylinders outer exhaust valves, but i figured the knack for that

.
now this was for what will eventually be my track bike/winter hack nc30 and only 3 were within tolerance, if at the wrong end, so after figuring which ones to swap, i am left with 6 to replace.

lol, there is regular servicing there also

. though i find these particular models can blow a gasket randomly between service intervals

One of the most satisfying jobs i have done on my Nc30. I think i had 12 out and needed 8 new shims. Made a difference in the starting and general running of the bike. It's not a had job just set aside a few hours to get it done right first time.

its not that its hard, in fact the step by step guide is ace but it all makes tonnes and tonnes more sence when you have it taken apart and can turn the engine to see exactly where TDC is, etc.
Measuring and getting the shims out is easy, it is however an absolute funker to get the shims back in while holding the rocker arm to one side and trying to slide the tiny shim cover in molyslip into the recess. at least it is when you have fat fingers!!!
