NC24 Service Manual & Race Fairing

Post by jaycee »

Hi Everyone,
I'm the proud owner of what used to be my father's VFR4. Sadly he passed away last summer and I promised him before he went that I would race his bike in his honor. It's pretty much standard and was manufactured in 1988 but registered in 1995 and is on a E plate. It has a single sided swing arm and the single exhaust is on the offside. It has a single rectangular head lamp. Is this the NC24?

If so does anyone have a pdf service manual or know where I can get one? Also I'm looking for a full track fairing and seat section for it. Does anyone know where I might fond one of those. I can find many options for the NC30 but not the 24.

I look forward to hearing your words of wisdom.

Cheers

Jay

Howdo Jaycee,

welcome to the site.

Sorry to hear about the old man but you have the bike and you told him you;d race it.

I reckon he would agree with me that racing the 24 is a bit of a long slog and that there bugger all out there for it...so be prepared for some stress to find a fairing.

servicing wise - haynes book of lies for the NC30 has some specs for the 24 too. It is a mini RC24 really and is a generation behind the 30.

Do you race now?

Stick about...this is the place for the 400s

Hi Mark, No I'm not racing now, I've never raced but I would love to give it a go. Is there much in the Haynes manual for the NC24, it seems as though its just specs. Do you think its worth getting?

Cheers

Theres not a great deal about for the 24 but as your doing it for sentimental reasons id be tempted to craft on a NC30 front end and convert the hub to accept a NC30 or even better a NC35 (17") rear wheel. Atleast then your on the same ish playing field as the rest of the grid and more importantly it'll still be your dad's bike.

As for bodywork have a look at some of the older rs250 race fairings, they will match the era of the 24 and anything can be made to fit with enough effort.

Hey fella,

Obviously I can't say for sure but I think if your old man was still around to hear the feedback and discussion on here then he might agree that at least for now then it's probably a better idea to restore the bike and keep it as a running tribute.

Compared to the later NC30 and other 400s the NC24 is seriously lacking in Suspension, brakes and wheels.

Nothing is readily / easily available and any conversions will cost a lot of money and change the bike.

HRC racing did make an hrc kit for the nc24 28 years ago now but they are rarer than rocking horse shit, you wold need to find a complete ex race bike and they are non-existant, i haven't seen any NC24 hrc kit in a few years.

It's a fun bike but in a race it will be pounded by everything. If your hell bent on racing I can give you soem pointers on what to look into but it wont be cheap or easy and will require a lot of money and some custom work.

There is a Japanese service manual for this bike

you mean the nc21 cams? they have the label on them which is for a rear set but the cams actually say fr on them, maybe not even hrc stuff, in any case the nc21 cams are different to the nc24 hrc cams and youd need carb setup and pistons and rods and ignition uit to use them
