Non starter

Post by redbandit12 »

Just fitted new battery, fuel in tank, good to go, not. (3EN2)
Turn ignition on and get a neutral light. Press start and nothing happens, just the oil light coming on.
Lights, indicators, horn etc ok.
No clicks, exup whirring, fuel pump priming, absolutely zilch
Looking at wiring diagrams, I keep seeing a 30 amp main fuse somewhere but can't find it.
I can only see the fusebox thats mounted on the subframe with 3 x 20a and 1 x 10a fuses in it
Any suggestions and advice would be great

Yes the main fuse is either an in line or piggyback on the solenoid. It might be the solenoid itself is duff, use an old screwdriver to bridge the terminals - there will be sparks and make sure the bikes in neutral
If this isn't the solenoid you want to check around the big diode on the rear subfame left side, check the blue wire and follow it back through the loom as best you can looking for any breaks

Well; it won't be a main fuse anyhow, not if other electrical circuits are working.
A main fuse is the primary isolater between the battery and all other circuits.
It wont do any harm to find its location though if indeed one is fitted to your 3EN2 as both of mine with original harnesses do not have this item.
The correct solenoid (36Y-81940-00) does not include an intergral fuse , some bikes may have had the solenoid replaced with a generic Yamaha unit that includes a fuse.
The parts fiches (pages 63/64) show only 10 and 20 amp fuses in the main fuse block, no 30amp unit or separate holder is shown.

From where did you get the wiring diagram ?
The Genesis diagram that is easily sourced is different to a 3EN2 and the 3EN2 diagram is virtually impossible to decipher added to the fact that the one shown in the factory repair manual (3EN-28197-06) is a print of the 3EN1 diagram !

As Evil states; this relay assy. next to the flasher unit, is more likely the suspect part;

Have you looked at the kill switch - it has been known for it to get into the off position :o
After that try with the sidestand up. If it starts then suspect the clutch switch under the clutch lever bracket.

Then check the sidestand cut out switch - follow the wires up to the connector and bridge them, if it starts replace the switch.

If you have no click, have you tried the starter relay (right side, in front of coolant res)? Unplug wire connection revealing 30amp fuse, if that's ok then possibly knackered relay. Got similar probs, but my relay is clicking, so think my starter motor's gone. Correct me if I'm wrong people, just following Haynes manual.
