3TJ ignition coils

Post by enduro250 »

HI,
has anybody experience in changing ignition coils?
Is it posibile, as example, using the combined ignition coils and spark plugs
form SC50 /SC57 or PC37 (CBR 1000RR or CBR600 RR)?

just an idea to find space for the RAM air snorkel for a 3TJ

You probably can fit stick coils although on 3JT's ive seen people mount the stock coils on the frame spars to allow for ram air

I think the stick type coils would get in the way of the bottom of the airbox.

Why not relocate the coils into the air box ?
Set up the ram air with the bottom of the air box moulded onto the headstock Web. Then mount the coils into the bottom of the air box. A couple of holes with grommet for the HTC leads and LT supply you're golden innit.

thanks for all this ideas;
yes relocating the origin coils is one option, sounds well.
i got the idea with the integrated coil/plug, based on low space and weight.
i have no one in my hand to check the length, if they will not overlap the valve cover.
If not, i have to root only the cables to them and can keep the area free above the valve cover for the snorkel.
i was expacting, that anyone has already tried it.

There a few people tried/doing this in the nc30 section, but it never seems to work as well as standard coils. The main reason is because they were not built for been wired in series because then each coil is only getting 6 volts instead of the 12 its supposed to, but if you wire them in parallel you'll burn out the tci.
I have often wondered about trying a 4cyl car coilpack if its primary winding resistance was close to a standard coil, that would prob work ok, tho I don't know if it would save any space.
Cheers

i was reading about in a other forum, used in some larger FZR engines.
but, anyway, as long as nobody has good results, i will keep the standard coils and put them on a better place. especially coil for cyl 2+3.

@ evilchicken0: sorry my english is not good enough to understand, where you want to mount the coils.
but glad to hear some detailed explanation

cheers

Ok
Make the bottom of the air box fit the space above the engine. Then fix the coils in the air box
