wont start

Post by leef82 »

hi all, I tried to start my nc30 yesterday after a year of not starting it, it had very little petrol and i put tiny bit more in ( old fuel) it kind of started and ran for about 20 seconds on full choke but the revs were very low like it was only running on a couple of cylinders then stopped. i went and put some fresh fuel in today and nothing..
I did notice when it died yesterday some steam and smoke coming from the exhaust and today after spraying carb cleaner down the air box got a small back fire. i also took out the rear plugs and gave them clean, which should be ok as they were new 18months ago and the bike hasn't been ridden since then.
any ideas

Pull your pilot jets and give them a clean (soak in carb cleaner followed by blowing some air through). It may be worth cleaning everything else whilst you're in there. Have you checked you've got a good fuel flow once there's a vacuum on the tap? Fill with fresh fuel and give it another go. If it's no go then check the coils and leads as described in the haynes.

A few guys on here would highly recommend against spraying carb cleaner down the air box as you can bollox the plugs.

Let us know how you get on.

hi thanks, for the reply, its frustrating because last time i started it started easy and i replaced the fuel and vacum hose. so id expected it ok as its only been sat there in the shed. i also checked the sparks and they seemed ok, but the exhaust did stink of petrol. ill start by pulling of the carbs and giving them a thorough clean and see
thanks
