JDM Part numbers
Bit of a wild goose chase, but does anyone have the part number for a 1986 Japanese FZR400R frame? Even better is if you can post a link to documentation with such in it. :D

Re: JDM Part numbers
The earliest I have info on is ;
http://www.cmsnl.com/yamaha-fzr400u-198 ... ml#results
This is the American version of the 1WG Genesis.(non exup equipped) 3FH
It may be that there is no online fiche of the Japanese version (what we have in uk) as all were "grey" imports.
I have a paper copy of the 1987 SP 2TK manual.
The frame part no is ; 2TK-21111-00
From this it would seem logical the frame no is 1WG-21111-00.
EDIT; See Model identification link;

Re: JDM Part numbers
The 87 2TK part number officially supersedes to the US 1WG part number.
2TK-21111-00 -> 3FH-21111-00
So that establishes the FZR to model year 87. To pull off the trick I want I need to verify that chain back to 1986. If I can, that puts the motor limit at 570cc instead of 500cc in CCS ULSB. :D

Re: JDM Part numbers
Kurlon; can not the VIN no. of the frame be utilised to verify the age of the bike. ?
See the link that was enclosed.
Perhaps a member has an early microfiche ? problem is readers are now scarce at dealers.

Re: JDM Part numbers
Maybe Fowlers would help - if you gave them the frame no. they may have a fiche and be able to give ou the part number from it.
But if it's just the year try the Yamaha main picture libary - http://global.yamaha-motor.com/showroom/library/grid/
put the model in at the top of the search on the left, scroll down to and hit search. You should get 13 hits for FZR400 ... although only 3TJs are shown to begin with, scroll right down and all the pictures will come up
Screen shot that grid view then click the picture of your model and you'll see the model year is at the bottom. Maybe this will help ?

Re: JDM Part numbers
Japanese VINs, if my 3TJ is any example don't clearly indicate the year. Even then, without a PN I can't prove a US 88/89/90 is identical to what they had in 86 meaning I have to go by the stricter displacement limit. Proving they existed is easy, unless I can get an actual 86 frame in my hands I have to prove that our frames are the same.

Re: JDM Part numbers
The frame no. as I suspected is prefixed by 1WG.
Here is a lot of links;
https://www.google.co.uk/search?num=30& ... umPdOtXnlM
This one clearly states that 1WG is superceded (meaning exactly same fit in the case of a frame ) by 3FH which I expect is what you have.
http://www.gearhead.com/yamaha-1wg-2111 ... 10-00-00/1
1WG Genesis (1WG-) were only manufactured 86 and very few in 87.
"The 87 2TK part number officially supersedes to the US 1WG part number.
2TK-21111-00 -> 3FH-21111-00"
By what you have stated above; 1WG (86)>1WG (87)>2TK (87)> = 3FH.
Yamaha VIN nos. are very accurate; it's the registration/import details that are like a bag of dolly mixtures.
