problems with 6th gear on my nc30

Post by kelvin »

hi I am wondering if some one can help me on my nc30 when I go into 6th gear it is fine till when I start to try and accelerate it starts to make a nasty noise as if the gear box is not engaged properly or missed aligned. I have heard some thing about these having a weak 6th gear any help would be great and possibly some solutions thanks vince

Sounds like it could be a bent selector fork or worn dogs. Possibly both. Either way i reckon it will need splitting and investigating.

Hope this help

What revs are you riding at when in 6th gear?
If it's very low revs with a worn out chain it could be lashing about.

hi yes it is at low revs but it has got new chain and sprockets on it and the chain is at the right tension, and with the gear selector and dogs would that just effect top gear because all of the other gears seem to be fine but like you said I think its an engine out job oh joy. thanks

If it's not jumping out of gear it's probably not the dogs or selectors.
It could be a chipped tooth though.
If it's at 2000 _ 3000 rpm in top then you're lugging the engine a too low a speed.
How bad is it? Can you get it up to say 6000 to 8000 rpm in 6th gear? If it's making noises at those revs then it's not just transmission lash....

it was between 4000-6000 rpm possibly higher it was fine when riding along the flat at approx. 50-55mph keeping up with the flow of the traffic them on the way home I over took a couple of cars steadily in 4th and 5th and when I went into 6th that's it started to play around and I tried going in and out off gear but like I said earlier it was fine at maintaining a steady speed but when starting to pull away started to make that noise

It sounds like your expecting it to pull from low revs in top gear, at 50mph I would have thought 5th would be better may be even 4th.
Remember the bike will do 60 mph in first gear.

5th and 6th don't like low revs.

Keep it above 6K rpm in those gears IMO :peace:

Worn or chipped gears then.

Not cheap!
