NC30 what oil to use? best for it?
Hi guys,
The time is coming for me to give my nc30 it's first service, stupid question I know but what is the best brand/type of oil to use for her? Thought I'd ask on here as I'd probably get some good advice
Any suggestions would be great!
Regards.......Cal

That's a can of worms. The general consencus on fully synth is that as long as it is bike specific oil for wet clutch use and the proper grade then it should be fine to use.ireson75 wrote:Castrol fully synthetic 10w40 for Bikes.

However, the VFR is designed to run 10/40 semi-synth oil, modern semi-synth is better than the old 80s semi-synth and should provide appropriate lubrication.
Depending on the fully synth it shouldnt break down as quick so you can have longer oil changes but most people like to change regularly anyway so any advatange will be lost if you do that.
A decent semi-synth oil will be adequate and if you change it regulalry you wont have any problems, but a decent fully synth shouldnt hurt anyway.

If you check online you should find a choice of semi synth oil (4 litres) & a hiflo filter for £30.

Been using this Silkolene Super 4 stuff for quite a while now (it was recommended to me by my local independant motorbike shop). They use it for majority of their servicing work, buy it in large quantity & match the cheapest on line deals so I like to support them.
As others have said already, if you change it regularly (say 4k miles road use) can't see the point of spending much more money.

This is whats currently in mine ^
Everything I own uses a 10/40 so between this, Motul and Motorex, one size fits all. Fully synthetics ruin the clutch in the FJ and CX so I stick to semi. Don't think the clutch is an issue on the NC30..

Castrol fully synth every time, my vfr runs soooo much quieter on that than the silkolene semi stuff, run me fzr400 on it aswell. I'd put it in me klr aswell but it burns rather a lot so it get whatever I have kicking about (but not full synth car stuff).

Might try it when it's due then..Morespeedvicar wrote:Castrol fully synth every time, my vfr runs soooo much quieter on that than the silkolene semi stuff, run me fzr400 on it aswell. I assume yours uses no (more?) oil on fully as opposed to semi? For the record mine never seems to use a drop.. Unlike the FJ!

Type of oil shouldnt affect how much is consumed by the engine. The NC30 shouldnt use any noticeable oil between changes providing everythings ok.VtypeV4 wrote:Might try it when it's due then..Morespeedvicar wrote:Castrol fully synth every time, my vfr runs soooo much quieter on that than the silkolene semi stuff, run me fzr400 on it aswell. I use any 10/40 that is JASO MA ( or equivalent) certified. Due to the age of the engine, quality of modern oil and regulalar changes anything else is just wasted for road use.
