Sheared Cam cover bolt
Hello everyone
Sheared the cam cover bolt on the rear set of cylinders(top left when sitting on bike), its too delicate and awkward to drill.
i want to replace this part but does anybody know where i can pick this up from? dont know what its called. Most importantly would i be able to remove it without re-timing cam? ie would i have to align cam timing lines before removing? is it just a straight replacement? anyone done this before? any help/ advice would be great.

Go to the docs section of the 400gb website and get the parts manual. The rear head is on diagram E-2-1. Each corner of the can holder has a different bolt on it, and the diagram is a little unclear as to which goes where. They're all 6mm, but all different lengths. I guess measuring the ones that came out would find it by process of elimination. I *think* it looks like it's the 64mm one, 90001-mr8-000, but please check to make certain! You should be able to order from any Honda parts supplier, DSS list the price at a little under three quid.

ahhh cheers for the info, its actually the part the bolt goes into that i need, at the existing one snapped off and i cant drill out.

The bolt goes through the cam carrier and into the cylinder head as best I can tell. Maybe you'll expose more of the bolt by removing the cam carrier, and be able to get something on it and try to undo it? Your pics only appear as thumbnails, so they make it had to see exactly what the situation is!

yeh ive seen that, dont know how to make em bigger? ive just bought some carriers off eBay, if i remove old cam carrie and replace with bought the one, i shouldn't have to re-time the cam should i?

The broken bolt shound`nt be to tight, try center popping the broken stud as centrally as possible, then drilling in reverse to wind it out, it wont do the drill much good but it may generate enough friction to wind it out, cover or mask off all the internals before starting, take care and do this at your own risk? Just a thought!

thanks for the reply guys.
Gazzahh, tried that with the center punch before but the way the bolt is snapped is very hard to get middle + the thread is gone on the top of carrier. therefore i decided to pick up a set of cam carriers and replace the threaded one. saves messing about around engine. i'll let you guys know how it goes when i get it though.
