FZR 400 1WG Streetfighter?
Hello all,
Over summer i've slowly put together my FZR, new paint and various other parts... but unfortunately due to where i live (on a very muddy farm) it fell over whilst on its stand because of loose shite ground! smashed the original mirror that took me ages to filler and sand due to condition... and also made lovely scratches on freshly painted fairings. So...
I've recently come up with the idea of turning my little FZR into a hooligan bike... do you approve?
I have a few questions to ask if i may...?
-What front end upgrade fits easily (or straight on)? i.e forks...
-What swingarm will fit straight on or simply on?
-Also what is a good fitting rear shock (with the different swing arm)?
I have reason to believe certain r6 parts fit?
Just to add i also made a custom seat cover for it, what ya think?
I've added links, last link is my concept i drew up
Hope to hear some feedback! Cheers!

Hi Luke;
Streetfighers are not really my thing but here goes;
Usually done on the 400s due to fairings and other plastics being totally destroyed and being the way to salvage the bike economically.I have yet to see a good one that pulls off the street look.
Could you not refinish the fairings and find a replacement mirror ?
The fighter look ends up being a costly exercise buying in non standard parts/modding to fit and adding no value whatsoever to the bike, only detracting from its resale value.
I have a somewhat modified Genesis (mouse over to expand)

The front end is Fzr600R with R6 calipers.
The rear is Trx 850 with an R6 shock.
The forks/ swinger were done by P.O (Kayla) to enable wider/17" tyres to be utilised which are cheaper/easier sourced.
I added the calipers and shock as a performance upgrade and the hugger for aesthetics.
The handling is slightly less flickable than a stock Genesis, wheelbase is about 30mm extended.
You have made a good job of the seat cowl, how was it done ?

Maybe you're right, the initial wanting to turn it into a streetfighter also came as i was struggling to sell it for what i believed a reasonable price (£900 ono). Perhaps stripping it down and making new as original would be a better idea, unfortunately the bike isnt to my taste in style, i prefer naked bikes.
The rear seat cowl was made using insulation blocks stacked on top of each other then carved into a similar shape, then managed to fit onto the rear and carve in the lines. Covered the carved block with tape then fibreglassed to make a mould. Then took a fibre glass cast out of mould and bit of sanding of the edges and filling did the trick. Stuck on with velcro for a clean look (also tough!).
You have a lovely looking bike there, could do with a rear seat cowl and it would make a lovely line with the tank

Re: FZR 400 1WG Streetfighter?
As you have already probably experienced, £900 is unrealistic for a Genesis no matter how it is tricked out.
Mine has numerous upgrades apart from those listed and would not make £600 which is why it will probably not be sold but rather gifted to someone who would appreciate its upgrades when the time comes.
Small sportsbikes such as the Fzr do not take to remodelling in another style well at all.
I have tried to source the solo cowl from Airtech in the USA but they are quite hard to obtain.
Perhaps you should market a few taken from your mould.
There have been others trying to source them previously on here.

^^^
True, £900 would buy you a half decent 3tj; older FZR's are pretty much worthless despite how nice they are or how much some of the ebay chancers list them for.
I also agree with the streetfighter sentiment, they always say to me "I've smashed my bike up but I cant afford to repair it properly".
I'd go down the Chinese fairing route personally.

Re: FZR 400 1WG Streetfighter?
Thanks again for the feedback!
Yeah i had been watching some on ebay and people really dont pay alot for them, even completely restored...
Luckily enough the fairings are totally repairable, just dings in the paint really.
I'm having trouble trying to source some bulbs for the front indicators as the only ones i can find are too big to fit in the chinese knockoffs i have on it
You know what i might just have a go at making some more now that you mention it, i thought it was just me that thought the rear looks a bit strange without one! I think it completely changes the look of the bike with a seat cowl on

I bought a pair of those flashers for a TDM; both bulbs were in fragments on arrival.
10 watt sidelight bulbs from the Landrover spares shelf fitted but the holders were so poor I substituted another pair.
Original 21 watt bulbs wont fit as you state.
Put me down for a seat cowl if you start production.

As a member and secretary of Streetfighters Owners Club I have to disagree completely with everybody on the streetfighter ideas... It all depends on your skill and budget as to what the finish of your bike, or what mates in trades you have
But this is what helps the world turn round and I won't open any worms or debates.
Your picture is more cafe racer than fighter (does suit the older bike)
If you do choose to fighter it just drop me a P.M if you need any help, I know a chap who has built a fighter from the same frame as yours and I'm deep into building my 3TJ at the minute

I really don't know what to do with the indicator situation... Its very frustrating! I will most certainly let you know if and when i start some up, they are handcrafted so are quite a bit of work to get right.willandrip wrote:I bought a pair of those flashers for a TDM; both bulbs were in fragments on arrival.

Thanks for the response! Mixed opinions then! Yeah it is kinda cafe in design with the clip on bars, but i just like the idea of a kicked up arse end then low aggressive riding position! I'm pretty handy with mig and slowly getting there with tig, also i like body work too! Just a shame i never enjoyed machine shop! But i may or may not go back to college and study engineering again (dropout here!!)StreetFZR wrote:As a member and secretary of Streetfighters Owners Club I have to disagree completely with everybody on the streetfighter ideas...
