'93 NC30 missing fork parts
Hi all,
The parts catalogue for NC30 N forks (http://www.akhara.com/nc30/nc30parts/files/27.htm) shows two little guys at the top of the damper rod.
Parts 51496-MR7-003 (Label B) & 91254-MM8-003 (Dust seal).
My forks do not have them at all. What do they do?

Dust seal is just what it says it is, keeps water and dust etc away from the fork oil seal. Honda tends to sells the oil seal and dust seal as a pair. Label B i think is to tell you which way to turn the damper adjuster to get more or less. Mine has the dust seals but no labels, seems to work ok.

That microfiche is labelled wrong and its very hard to see.
Its not that dust-seal magg.

here is a much clearer image.
The Fork dust seal is part 24 / 16 as a pair with the fork seal which as you pointed out Honda usually sell them as pairs.
The label is just that, label.
51496mr7003 is the label deal
91311mr7003 is the o-ring at the top
The other part is the o-ring that seals the adjuster mechanisim.
You should have the o-ring else rain is likely to get in your forks.
most of the labels have been lost long time ago.

Re: '93 NC30 missing fork parts
My error, assumed the part number quoted were correct, if the O ring at the top of the damper rod is what StrayAlien wants then it is P/N 91311-MR7-003 and not 91254-MM8-003. If the O ring is missing then there will not be an air tight seal and oil will squeezed out by the fork internal air pressure under compression.

Thanks all, yes, it is the little fellow at the top of the damper rod. Funny I don't have them.
Odd what you say about the oil being squeezed out though magg. The forks have been oil tight.
At any rate, I'll order the parts on Monday.
Thanks again,
PS. Stand by for a barrage of further questions re these forks. :-)

You know, I have been trying to figure out from the diagram where these darn orings are actually supposed to go. I ordered some, but they have to come in from Japan. Time to ponder ....
Then it dawned on me, the diagram shows the preload adjuster still attached to the damper rod and the oring in question goes on the preload adjuster to seal it against the top top. Got it.
After disassembly, my top nuts and preload adjuster are all still together - no wonder I cant see where it goes!
:-) Happy now ... unless you all tell me I am wrong ....
