Post by kevsnc30 »

hi looking to replace the std rectifier b4 it goes up the shitter , is there a preferred alternative , ive heard r6 2002 model fits but is this a straight swap or do you need to cut and solder wires , pics would be usefull of the conversion or is there another model rectifier that fits thanks

Yes the r6 rectifier is a common upgrade it will entail cutting the plug and soldering on new spades to fit its worthwhile checking the other multiplugs and wiring on the charging system at the same time for evidence of burning. If your feeling flush have just read that the nc30 guru on here rick oliver is now selling mosfet rectifiers for these bikes which should cure the dreaded failures for once and for all.

You can also use a 2007 and newer CBR600RR unit. Again cut and splice is required, but it is a MOSFET unit and will be much nicer to your battery.

Just recently fitted one removed both studs from the subframe as their not long enough and centres are out . redrilled and bolted it on still required a bit of work with a dremel on the cooling fins to get it sitting neatly against the subframe. I have some aluminium sheet was thinking about cutting a piece to fit between the reg and subframe to assist in heat dispersal along with some of that heat transfer paste for good measure .

On my UK spec it bolted straight on to the subframe on the original further back mounts .rather worryingly the r6 reg looks the same bar the plug wiring as the UK spec larger finned regulator that failed on me  so I don't think it's a lifetime fix but should still be a massive improvement over the original chocolate one.

You can get a new mosfet r/r for about 60 GBP, install sealed connectors and forget about the issue.

Do you think the r/r from the new 2013 CBR500R or F would fit (31600-MGZ-J01)? I think I can get those.
