Re: nc30 oil
Decent semi-synthetic 10w40, preferably branded and definitely motorbike only (no car oil).
I always use a genuine filter too.

It doesnt make a difference.goody 28 wrote:Ok cheers defo semi synth not full ,
As long as you use the correct grade (10w40) and thats its bike specific oil you cant really go wrong.
Some car oils contain moly grease to improve MPG which can cause a wet clutch (one that runs in the oil like on the bike) to slip.
I buy whatever is cheapest between 10/40 semi (which is what the book says) and 10/40 fully synth.
Oil today is much better than 20 years ago when the bike was made, so even the cheapy oils are probably as good as the bike will require.
The only benefit I can see fully synth having is that some of it lasts longer so you dont need to change it as often.

Re: nc30 oil
Yeah my fzr and nc30 are on castrol power1 fully synth, mainly cos it was on offer!!! The nc30 loves the stuff. Engine sounds sooo quiet on this oil, alot better than the silkolene semi synth.
But deffo dont use car stuff.

Re: nc30 oil
So is the whole fully synth makes the clutch slip thing a myth?

Re: nc30 oil
As long as you dont use car oil, modern bike fully synths in my experience are fine.
I'll be putting it on me klr when its run in.

Re: nc30 oil
Not a myth but if you use oil designed for motorcycles it shouldnt cause clutch issues regardless of the type of oil.bikemonkey wrote:So is the whole fully synth makes the clutch slip thing a myth?
The problem came from people using oil not designed for wet clutches (eg car oil). Some fully synth oils, and even semi-synth car oils that claim to improve mpg have moly grease and other lubricants added to them to reduce internal engine friction and give you more power hence less fuel used.
If you use this oil in a bike it will cause the clutch to slip.
