Just out of interest, special frames
So today, just out of interest, I rang Spondon engineering up.
Asked how much it would cost to have a vfr nc30 frame and swing arm kit made.
£4000
And because its never been done before there would be an extra £1500 cost to make the jigs,
as well as supplying a frame, engine etc to make it.
It's a lot of money but my god I want to own a spondon frame
Think I would get rick Oliver involved for input on geometry

Is that price likely to go down if you got more orders? Thats a lot of cash!

A Bakker frame should set you off around ~Eur.3.5K for just the frame, and expect another ~Eur.1K for all other costs and legalisation. I know of this from a sp1 vtr one-off build.

I take it Timon would want this for a track bike not road bike?

Would have to be a road bike, its hard to justify that much cash and effort for a trackbike. Just give them a VFR800 engine instead of the 400

Re: Just out of interest
If i somehow found the spare cash it would be very much designed as a track/racebike but I would get all the paperwork sorted to get a logbook.
At least the choice would be there to put it on the road that way.
Sounds weird but I would want to put a 400 engine into it. Putting any other engine in would take away the nc30 identity, makes sense in my head anyway.
I assuming the price would come down a bit if more frames were ordered. The jigging cost only has to be paid once

Re: Just out of interest
Surely reframing an NC would take away the identity too, i think the NC30 and 35 frames look brilliant and surely one of the most over engineered bits of the bike!?
Would it be for a performance benefit or just being able to say you have a spondon frame NC30? I can see the attraction on RG500's and other ill handling bikes with a brilliant engine that would benefit from the job, but i cant see the attraction in getting one for an NC personally...
Doesnt mean i dont want to see pictures of it though

Re: Just out of interest
I've always wanted a spondon frame and I love the nc30 so I suppose its just that for me really.
I would get some more adjustability built in for the rear suspension ride height.
In reality its all pipe dreams unless I get a years worth of ridiculous overtime.

Re: Just out of interest
Me and my business partner build race frames. Most recently was this XR69 designed for the classic club but with a few tweaks.

This is the the earlier version of the same frame complete with wheels and GS1000 engine. There is a full fairing but thats been removed to show the frame + running gear.

If you're interested, we can help and I can confirm it'll be much less than £5500! PM or repost and we'll be happy to discuss.

Re: Just out of interest
Emailed Harris about a frame for the nc30 too

Dear Tim
Thanks for your interest in our products.
I have just spoken with Lester Harris and I'm afraid we cannot offer any
of the parts you require.
The only thing we could offer would be a replacement shock absorber.
Regards Mark
