I think you should stick the NC30 personally I think the looks are better than the NC35 some simple things you can do to get her handling better like the rick' O's fork kit and a better rear shock, my gears also get abit stiffer to engage when hot my clutch could do with a rebuild but she soldiers on, returning the bike to its original colour will make it look allot cleaner than some aftermarket look, my type 4 fairings could do with abit of care and repairing especially the lowers so i'm trying to find a chinese set to fit on and get the originals repaired for storage.

hello Simon, martin send you in this direction and to speak with me i guess.
He knows i have a few of each

Ok here goes, i keep saying this, but if i could only have one bike for life to do it all on, it would be the NC30.
various reasons why, but i prefer many things about it to the RVF.

the NC30 is better quality wise in many ways, but also has some down sides.

side by side bikes of equal condition / mileage i would say 30.

I do prefer the riding position of the 35 i admit, but they take some effort to handle as well as a stock 30, the 35 forks are shite from the start, and the rear shock is no better. late 30 items are pretty good to be fair from new but all will be tired now.

A good original 30 will always be in more demand and easier to sell than a 35. ignore the dealer prices of the 35's being asked - none sell. where as good clean original 30's are gone in an instant.

why dont we meet some time (i guess you are local to me) and let me try your 30 and i will give you my thoughts how it rides (i have owned 20+ 30's now)

I had assumed you knew martin and were local to us near chester.

I think some of the prices there are conservative and you are right, it may be less stress to just buy a sorted bike and sell yours on.

Problem is, most used bikes are slightly whipped and you could end up buying something with its own issues.

If you are fed up with it and want to look at a RVF every morning, then you could do worse that buy Emily's currently for sale in the classifieds, a nice usable bike, then flog yours on and its win win.

your prices seem miles off.

Rattly noise is most likely to be valve clearnaces need doing, never seen worn cam gears causing a rattle, even on 100,000km plus bikes.

"shot gun" aka twin stack systems regulalry fetch over 500 quid, even for beat up ones.

Whats up with the clutch? Unless its slipping selecting neutral is probably down to worn fingers on the basket, you can probbaly get away with filing them level, so all you need is a gasket for that side and a tool to remove the clutch nut.

Unless you pay top dollar for a nice RVF then your probably going to be in the same situ, a bike with niggly problems, since youve already done quite a bit it might be wise to keep it and sort it out.

Best thing you could do is find somebody who will have a good look over it that really knows these bikes.. i.e. ride up to see CRM (Paul) or another member and get their opinion on it.

For 350 quid you can get chinese fairings for it but the quality does vary quite a bit. Appearance should be last though, get everthing else sorted first.

I think the USD forks make the bike look more attrcitvie to some as it does have a "perofmance" thing associated with it, but id chose the nc30 anyday.

35 is down 6 bhp from the factory too over the 30.

I was in a similar situation about 18months ago, after commuting on my 30 for allmost a year and right through winter it was in a very sorry state, so i had 2 choices in my eyes. Sell mine and save to buy a nice clean example that i could enjoy on the summer days and use my hack bike to get dirty on the commute, or give it a full refresh and have a fairly nice bike at the end of it.

I decided to spend a bit of cash improving it over last summer and them completly strip it down the winter just gone, spent a silly amount of cash on it and it will never stop, every time i wheel the bike out i spot a little something that id like to refurb or finish off and i haven't had the fairing painted yet! Looking back on where the bike was all those months ago its a massive improvement and it rides like a dream now. Has it been worth all the time money and effort thats gone into it? Yes for sure, maybe i could have bought a nice tidy example and even saved money over the amount ive spent now but i wouldnt have a bike that i know inside out and have had countless hours of enjoyment (and alot of headaches) getting it to where it is now.

So to sum it all up, if you really love the bike then keep it, slowly refurb or replace parts and end up with a really nice machine that you can be proud of!

it doesnt really sound that you have to many real problems

some new oil may fix your shifting probs

i have owned quite a few 30's and many bikes and many are hard to get into neutral

clicking into neutral before your final stop or blipping the throttle often helps

remember these are all old bikes and getting another old bike might give you a pile of new issues to fix

many a person has sold a car or bike because they have spent a shitload of money on it already , but by then they have fixed eveything and the new owner gets to enjot it , they really were just sick of it and didnt think about that everything they have fixed and it will now be reliable

Just fix it.

I've dumped a lot of money into mine as it had many issues, me included with my performance part fetish....

But now it runs perfect, never misses a beat, ever.
