Soft Front Forks

Post by madgazman »

Hey guys

I have a 92 NC30, its not been getting much used this summer , I had it out for a 30 min blast 2 weeks ago and it was fine

But

Yesterday I took the bike of the stand and the front forks compressed/sank?? There is no oil leaking from them that i can see.

Now when I sit on the bike the kick stand is nearly on the ground too!

Any ideas or help would be appreciated

Thanks

The springs keep the bike "up" not the oil...so, unless you have eaten all the pies then you might want to get a look at adjusting the preload or purchasing some stiffer springs?

Welcome to the site..

Get us a pic of the bike as it sits without you on it.

If you have an issue with the forks and for the relativley small ammount of effort involved, I would drop them out and strip them down to check them.

Even if there is nothing 'obvious' when you have them appart it would be a great opertunity to give them a service with some new seals/oil and possibly up grade the springs with a Rick Oliver set.

Only about an afternoons work from start to finish and then at least you would know they are in tip top working order ;)

Welcome to the funny farm by the way

Erm, it will always dip when you stand it up as your loading up the forks, this is static sag, perhaps you haven't noticed it before?.

As above, unless something has snapped off, the springs keep the forks up, the oil does the dampening.

You can always turn the preload adjuster up more to stiffen up the front.
