Ive recently noticed a noise on my engine, hard to describe it, its like a tappety noise but deeper (i think), its very noticable. Cant hear it under engine braking but as soon as you put a little bit of throttle on its there.
I started stripping down the bike so i could check the valve clearances, i also decided to remove both engine side covers while i was at it to check nothing was loose, catching etc. All normal on the starter motor side but the clutch side has thrown up a few things. The 10mm headed bolt on the clutch side casing which holds the wiring to the stator tidy was only a couple of turns from coming out, however no marking on the bolt to say it has being catching anything, possibly the little metal wiring tidy it holds to the casing is causing the noise but i doubt it.
So i started having a goodlook around and found that the clutch baskethas 'play' in it, if you grab the top and bottom you can rock the basket a bit, is this normal or should it be bolted up solid?
Last thing is i noticed the chain that drives the oil pump seems very slack to me!
Im going to check the clearences tomorrow
thanks

Yeah finally found out what was wrong, big ends have gone, going to pick up another engine on wednesday. Still unsure what to do with this one now though, either ill keep it for parts or ill rebuild it, not sure how easy sourcing oversized mains will be though....
