Honda VFR 750FM rear wheel?

Post by KennonNC29 »

I've got a set of RVF wheels already for the 17'' wheel swap but I was wondering why I haven't seen anyone fit the VFR 750FM rear wheel to me it looks allot closer the the standard NC30 rear wheel, is the fitment not quite right to be fitted? I plan to have another NC30 on a smaller budget than the current one.

Its 5.5" isnt it? Ideally thats too wide for a 160 tyre

170 was standard fitment for the vfr750 on both but the rounded 5 spoke (not to be confused with the 'squared' 5 spoke from the 800) rim is only 5" wide and takes a 160 fine.

As the inebriated simian has already said, a 5.5" rim is too wide for 160 and i doubt a 170 would clear the chain on the 400, not to mention the adverse effect on handling and tyre choice.

Ahh okay I see shame as to me it would look better than the 5 spoke choice

A 170 might fit, ive seen a 170 wet on a 5.25" rim and that cleared. Couldn't say for sure if a 170 would clear using a 5.5" rim though but then can you get any decent road tyres in 170 anymore?

Of course anything can be made to fit even a 180 on a 5.5" will go with mods but then you have to start asking yourself why as its not going to do the handling anygood on a 400.

Bridgestone and Michelins are available for that tyre size, just being able to choose more tyre choices is the main reason i'm doing a 17'' wheel swap

Rick Oliver got back to me, just cleared up why its not used for me its just too wide and too much work compared to the 5 spoke VFR 750 wheel

well I would like to try Pirelli's atm my RVF wheels are fitted with michelin track tyres when I bought them I don't expect them to last long so will probably go for a set of sport touring tyres afterwards. The bridgestone's fitted to my vfr rear wheel is nice but when your given a choice of just 2 you get abit annoyed with them.
