VF400 Oil change.

Post by pauljames » Tue May 14, 2013 11:48 am

Hi all,

I'm new to this so all help will be appreciated.

I recently picked up a VF400 for £100, it doesn't currently run and I think it's flooded.

I plan on changing the oil and un-flooding it before I try and start it again, but I have no idea how to change the oil and check the oil levels? If anybody could tell me how to do/give me a manual on how to do it, i'd be grateful.

Thanks.

Sorry, I should have been more specific.

I'm having trouble locating any sort of dipstick. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be on the filler cap and has broken off or it's on a different part of the engine.

Yeah should be on the oil 'filler cap' dunno how yours has managed to break off? :/ pick yourself up a new one for cheap as chips... Grab yourself a haynes manuel at the same time ;)

Edit: also if the oil level bit is broken make sure you check that its not actually inside your engine... How to do that i don't know haha but will cause you some problems if it is...

The OP has a VF400 not a VFR.

I assume OP is on about the above bike?

You can get the shop manual on ebay, I think its a good investment.. really cant rmember if the dip stick is supposed to be in the filler cap or not.
