Gk76a starter problem

Post by Danryan1991 »

Hi
I have many problems with my gsxr 400 gk76a 26000km

First of all the bike wouldn't start, would crank over a dozen times then back fire, I assumed it would be spark plugs so I brought new ones, still didn't solve my problem, so I put it in the garage and they said there was an intimate spark after reading up on here I thought it was the cdi before I brought another cdi I noticed that the solenoid had packed up, so I brought another and another but still no luck just clicks once, I've cleaned the earths and wires however I've come to a grinding stop and am praying on someone shedding abit of light and hopefully solving my problem.

Thanks for reading my post and please reply. :)

unable to fire up is the most common problem we faced & also the hardest to spot. fuel, electric, air are needed in order for the bike to fire up. mine was stuck there for weeks till I gave up and tow to shop. & they never changed a thing on it to get it fire up. but when asked how he did it, just said he cleaned the carbs. :o if the cdi is original and was running fine then try other area 1st. vacuum ok? fuel in carbs? sparks? ever try push start? I tried push till no batt & gave up. :peace:

Thanks for the reply Ben.
I've solved the solenoid problem now. it was my battery, i tested my battery for volts which was good but the amp/current was low so i got a different battery and it cranked the bike. :-D
now I've got to put the carbs on and wait for cdi to come.
I did wonder if it was the carbs so i did take them off and clean all the jets .ect. still the same.
I assumed it was the cdi as the bike would back fire after a dozen cranks. Spark plugs are sparking when the exhaust valve is open, which led me to the cdi.

The gsxr 400s are known for there wiring to go wrong and the notorious carbs to mess up, its a right pain in the back side.

How much would you say a gk76a engine is worth? i have a spare engine, loom and carbs, i was going to put it in a kart :-D

Sounds stupid but makesure the HT's are feeding the correct plugs - 1/4 and 2/3.

Also check the pickup trigger is supplying 100/110 ohms.
