STARTER/IGN PROB

Post by Jac-al »

hi,

ive never had a problem with my starter, when this morning the ignition came on but when i hit the starter button nothin happens and i checked everytime i tried it kept popping a fuse. How and where could extra power be comin from to cause this?

Starter relay would be the place to start, pardon the unintended pun.

Disconnect the red/green and yellow/red wires at the starter relay.

Measure the resistance between the the terminals on the starter relay where the wires had been connected. Should measure 50 ohms or more, sorry do not have an exact figure. If the relay is faulty you could measure close to zero ohms.

If starter relay resistance is ok, then with the red/green and yellow/red wires still disconnected, measure the resistance between the yellow/red wire and earth. Should be infinite resistance, if not then you have a short to earth somewhere between the START button and the starter relay.

Stop bumping threads with question marks after two hours.

Instead of being so impatient why not read the service manual from the downloads section. All of the things mentioned in the above posts are clearly detailed in there.

Hi, when i test the wiring on the starter relay it reads nothin but the connector block on the right hand side measures 430ohms as it should and now the ignition lights wont come on. By mistake i touched the red and black terminals onthe relay together and the starter motor started turnin

It is normal for the starter motor to turn when touching the two large terminals on the starter relay together. I was hoping for your answers to the questions in my earlier post, it would help in diagnosing the problem.
