Help/advice needed (splits and paint repair)

Post by benny » Sun Apr 28, 2013 4:34 pm

So after cleaning my bike today there's a few bits I would like to repair/improve. First is the paint chips on the nose coen of the fairing seen here:

Also the left side of the nose cone where the mirrors attached is split:

Which seems to be due to the inner brace thing not lining up perfectly with the fairing, after replacing the mirrors i managed to improve the situation slightly but not as much as I wished.
Also cracks on the other side:

My red rear pillion seat also ha black marks on, is leather cleaner OK to use on this or is there something more suitable?
Any advice with any of these would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Ben

Looks like the blue needs to be repainted. Any cracks drill a 1mm hole at the end of each one this will stop the going any further. Mirror stay looks like needs a good 2 part glue like arildite good method is to use jointing tape that plasters use along the crack then put on the glue.

Your gonna need proffesional help to sort out correctly.
Cracks need repairing by experienced guy who knows bike plastics, then the whole nosecone will need repainting.

Other option is to bodge, I would just touch up/polish and live with the cracks rather than bodge it together.

(My crdentials for advice....I lecture on vehicle accident/restoration/refinish)

If you want to have a go yourself check out this company...
http://www.innotecworld.com/motorcycles/

I'm sure they have demo on youtube too.....this stuff IF used correctly is about as good as any plastic repair compound i've used.

Good luck and feel free to ask for any advice.

Never used plastex, but having just looked into it seems ok. There are many plastic repair compounds available and they all do a similar job, THE MAIN thing is the repair process (preparation of repair area, correct drying times of cleaners/adhesion promotors, good alignment and bracing of repair etc...) however, you do seem to get what you pay for, the main product I teach my learners with is Lord Fusor distributed by Farecla.
If your serious about having a go yourself I could attempt to post a process chart on here to assist?

Sounds good, thanks. Not sure how easy it would be to use one these cracks as there's not actually any material missing, or am I thinking about this wrong?
