glad to hear its working out.. what would be the usual bits that could be wrong with the engine that I could look out for on a test ride?

tbh my bike is an nc23 triarm (bike before the nc29).
however a thing with the nc29 to look out for is the gearbox! something to do with jumping out of gear in 2nd and 6th i think (am sure someone will come along to confirm for ya)

also can get some pics of my 23 if ya want, however cosmetically she hasn't changed much. just required putting all the road gear back on her and ordering shiney new parts so she's ready for the mot :) however i found out yesterday that the left hand side engine casing is cracked and leaking oil (means i need to get a new one Dammit!) otherwise some time next month she will see her return to the road and in jan 09 she will look good again (ordering a new fairing)

take someone with you who knows bikes for a 2nd opinion.

NC29s do suffer from a weak clutch, *IF* you get a test ride, accelerate hard in 2nd and see if it slips or jumps out of gear. this is by no means a reason to walk away IF the seller deducts the cost of replacing the clutch or getting it done them selves.

the more service history the better.. and READ IT!
HPI check any bike you look at.
cheap and easy way to HPI is txt DRIVEBY then the Reg and send to 83600. costs £2 and you get a txt back confirming frame number, if its been scrapped/stolen/recovered and IF its been written off.

Thanks for the input.. however I have found a nice nc23 which im going to look at in a couple of weeks time.. the guy isnt in a rush to sell and i dont have all the money just yet so its ideal.. and apprently its in mint condition.. i will post pictures and details after ive looked at it.

Does the nc23 triarm also have problems coming out of gear? i should be able to get a test ride the guy seems pretty laid back. what are the major service intervals on this bike?

sh4d0w0lf - how do you find your nc23? do you have any videos? and if you could post pics would be good! any other tips peeps?

well to start with i got the bike off the old forum from a guy called Graeme France.
the gearbox problem with the nc29 doesn't exist with the nc23... completely different engines that said afaik the nc23 has a more reliable engine (have heard of one doing over either 50k miles or 100k miles sofar :)

don't have any video's of the nc23 but i can get some piccys online shortly lol ( just note she looks a lil tatty until i order the new chinese fairings in)

i have heard that nc23 rear shocks can be a bit soft and are sometimes replaced with a cbr 600 rear shock? or is it just the spring? would it be worth looking for one of these before i get it as i weigh about 13 1/2 - 14 stone..

many nc riders in surrey?

how long you had your nc for leopard?

how much do you think i should offer for a nc23 with 30,000km in mint condition?

thanks again

i've had my NC29 for almost 6 years now. bought it mint from a sunny day rider who hardly did any miles. it had no service history and a very custom paint job (unknown at the time of purchase). i paid :£1,500 + Part Xed my old RG125FUR for £1,000.

any bike thats old (NC23s are older than 29s) will need the shocks sorting out if not already done by prev owner. yes a CBR600 shock fits but not sure which one. you will also need a dog bone or extend the side stand as the bike leans too far over. id buy them together.

i cant comment on a "mint" nc23 as id never personally buy one.
whats mint to one person is crap to another... check it out 1st and look at other bikes for comparison is a must
