NC30 How to remove coil spring
Hi - what is the process to remove the coil spring on the standard remote reservoir type shock? Hopefully you dont have to screw / remove the remote reservoir line? Thanks

Re: NC30 How to remove coil spring
Compress the spring with spring compressors then undo the preload collors, simples

Re: NC30 How to remove coil spring
Sorry Drunkn Munky, my ignorance stretches a litte further than that
From what I thought the preload collars are the two large "castle nuts" at the top. I havent put the spring compressors on yet, because they are car variety and I need to modify them to fit but I have loosened the castle nuts fully (until they hit their stop) to see how things work. IT seems they wont go any further and if they did they would get stuck on the remote reservoir outlet. The only thing I was thinking was that the rebound adjustment (which I think is at the bottom of the shock) may be loosened to get the bottom mounting point off the shock.... or there may be some twisting technique to separate the shock in two?

Okay first of all forget car spring compressors your make a right mess of things but it is possible. I cant remember how the nc shock is put together but the general process is now you have undone those preload adjusters, compress the spring and the lower retaining plate will now be free to slide out and therefore the spring too,all should become clear once you compress the spring

Re: NC30 How to remove coil spring
Just so you know, I cut the car spring compressor short so that the legs which hold the spring are short enough that they dont foul but it makes things a little scary
so when the spring is slightly compressed, you tap the base plate that the spring sits on in the direction of the spring (ie in the direction of the compressed spring), this uncovers a split metal o ring, remove this and the base plate will then slide off the bottom of the shock. I then had to remove the spring compressors because they were catching on the shock and this allowed the spring to slide off... tada
now off to the powdercoaters
