This noise has been on my cbr400 since I bought it, It doesn't effect performance in any way and is only apparent on idle. Seeing as I have the panels off I thought I'd investigate.

Here is a video, of very poor quality mind you... (Its hard feeding fuel with no tank, cold starting and filming!)

Sounds like either HT lead arcing out on something, quick fix take HT leads off and wrap them in insulation tape and try again if the clicking has gone then you know its one of the leads.

Or air leak in the headers, make sure all your header nuts are tight if not get some new exhaust gaskets.

Literally did the exhaust headers this morning with new gaskets.

Wrap what parts up in the tape?

The HT leads mate spark plug leads, you will have to take tank and airbox off to get the leads out.
Just wrap them in insulation tape and if it stops bonus, i have mine wrapped in insulation tape on the nc23 for the same reason, just haven't got round to putting the r6 coils on lol.

The ht lead shank part which goes in the engine mate?

Didn't realise how deep they went down!

Here is a pic of my nc29, i have circled the ht leads in red, they go to the front to spark plugs, you need airbox off to get them out, just wrap them and see how it goes mate

Yeah my money is on an electrical arc as well....definitely sounds electrical.

I've heard of spark plug leads arcing down in the head before and some people use silicon sealer around the top of the spark plug caps to prevent this.

Insulation tape around the actual leads may fix the 'electrical leak' but to be honest your leads shouldn't arc as they are, it's not normal.

Can you try another seat of leads off someone else to see if it stops the noise?? That's what I'd do first and if it is the leads then you can buy a nice new set and you're away laughing!!

Good spark is a necessity on a bike and the difference a new set of plugs and leads can make to the performance is actually quite big!

You could also try snipping 5mm off both ends of the leads and reconnecting them to the coils and plug caps? The spark plug leads just screw into the coils and the plug caps and sometimes the wire ends can get a bit dull and corroded???

I have undone the ht leads where they go into the connectors and one does seem brown/burnt so this probably is the cause.

Do you know where I can get new ht leads? All the ones I've seen are just the lead not with the spark plug connector, and making one isn't my speciality ha!
