Hi everyone need to share my pain with you all. Started my bike yesterday and checked oil level, all was good so locked her back up and dossed around the house for two hours then whent to take the dog for a walk, as I walked down the drive I noticed smoke pissing out of the garage ran inside got my keys and hastily unlocked garage to find my baby in a bad way indeed yep she was on fire, a quick thinking neighbour came from nowhere and doused the flames with a bucket of water!
The seat unit is just a mess of melted plastic, riders seat heavily charred and the dust sheet that was covering it also caught fire resulting in damage to more or less every panel. So there we have it an all round catastrophic disaster I am truly devastated, that bike had a soul now I feel like part of me is missing. Looking on the bright side though at least I found the fire in time (sort of) and the house didn't burn down and nobody was hurt.
Jury is out on what will happen to her now, would be a real shame to see it get broken up but fixing it may prove too costly! I will try and get some pics up to see what you guys think? Haven't been able to bring myself to go back in there yet the wounds are so very fresh!

Arghhhhh, Keny,what a disaster.
You were lucky in one respect, to spot the fire before the garage was engulfed.
Hope you have insurance of some sort.

How do you think the fire was started ?,electrics of course, but had you done anything else when you checked the oil. ?

When you can face the inquest, it will be a good idea to have a thorough look for the cause.

Hopefully the damage may not be as bad as you suspect and you can rebuild it.

Pretty sure your insurance will wish to scrap it regardless, due to age ,which is a real shame.

I am really hoping that the "doctored" Tci unit was not the cause of this !

Do you keep anything under the seat that could have shorted the battery ?

Don't think the tci had been doctored it was just a standard 4dx unit (I think) but I fitted that months ago and all seemed to be fine, even enlisted the electrition from work to lend a hand. Nothing under the seat. Not to good with electrics so I don't really know how these tragedies occur?
Just spoke to my insurance A quote who nearly gave me a nervous breakdown when they told me my insurance could not be validated then after 5 mins told me it was valid but I would need to speak to the underwriters who are not open today
Don't think I can just let her get scrapped need to see if they will sell it back to me. One things for sure it's a write off!

You ran the engine before putting it away ... ?
I reckon the dust sheet was on the exhaust.

Anyway - take off the bodywork and make a list of what you need. Find out the excess on your insurance and get an estimate for next years premium. Its probably going to be cheaper to sort it out yourself

Don't twist the knife and make me feel worse than I already do I've been through that scenario in my head a thousand times and decided to rule it out for my own mental sanity.

Good point about the insurance I'll check that out. I think most of the panels and tank could be sorted with new paint what it definitely does need is everything from the riders seat back and a new back tyre don't think I'd trust that after all the rear plastics have melted to it!

It doesn't sound great but at the same time it could have been a lot worse too.
It sounds like you could unbolt and bolt on most of the bits but the paint on the tank will be the expensive thing unless you know a sprayer.
Take some pics and post them together with a list of parts.

Its a shame but its not unrepairable
