Help!- Is that true..

Post by traian »

First sorry for my bad english- I am from bulgaria, and i am having an challange with my favourite bike 1 week ago , me and my friend opened the carbs , to clean them and set the float highs, and to synchronize them . All the float hights was different , We set them to 7 mm and the pilot screw to 2 and half (i cant explain it correct , but hope you understand me ) But today i went to buy a battery for her and a local mechanic told me that , if we ever open and touch the floats -this bike have very little chance to "start"" again..... That totally disapointed me He say that this model has very problematic carburators - it is honda cbr400rr nc23 1988. We havent put the carbs on yet.But we will do it in couple of days.. Want to ask , are the words of that "mechanic" right or it is a trick for me to give my bike to him , to fix it . The person who helps me has long year expirience with bikes and he is totally sure that we will start her . :rocks:

We set the carbs and shte starts from the first attemp on 4 cyl. Now we must just synchronize the carbs. I whant to know what will she do if the carbs are not well synchronized? Sorry for my bad english .

If the carbs aren't synchronized I imagine the bike won't be as fuel efficient and maybe a little bit down on power but it depends how out of synch your carbs are really.

If the bike sounds smooth at idle and high revs then you shouldn't have to worry too much at all??

Do you have a carb synchronizing tool???

Hmm. the cylynder on the leftest .. pf how to explain it - when you sit on the bike the outside cylynder on the left is not always working . what can be the problem - the carbs are setted up , only not syncronized . it is not from the spark plug (i''ve try with another ) i dont have an idea ..

You need to test that you are getting spark on that cylinder 'the leftest one' first.

Take the spark plug out but leave it attached to the spark plug lead and earth the plug. You can earth it by simply resting the metal thread of the plug against the frame of the bike. Crank it over briefly and watch for a decent bright spark.

If you don't get a good spark then you might need a new spark plug lead or worse case scenario a new coil.

One other scenario is that you have killed the spark plug. It's pretty hard to do but if you flood the bike enough the plugs can actually die.

My money is on the spark plug lead or the coil mate. Good luck & let us know how you get on!!
