Problem starting my CBR400RR NC29

Post by kurisuaki »

Hi everyone,

Having some trouble starting my bike. The starter motor cranks a couple of times and then there's a loud snap sound. Refer to video below. It's actually pretty loud.

Help appreciated!

not sure about any snapping noise, can only hear the starter.

If it has not been started for a while the bike will be difficult to start. Make sure the battery is in tip top condition and fully charged and that fresh fuel is getting through the system. New plugs would help but at least clean the ones that are in for best results. Once your getting a couple of back fires your usually near the point it will start, I tend to recharge the battery at least once again before it will start if my bikes been left or apart for a while. Some one here said they are a very cold blooded bike and can be a pig to start if left, I tend to agree.

Hi Durka,

Strange thing is, the problem first started while i was at the petrol station. Been riding this bike daily for a couple of months now.

So the bike just started playing up?

When it started playing up at the garage was it warm/hot? If one of the coil banks goes pop it should run on the other one - rough but it should run on 2 out 4 when hot.

I would -

1st) Check there is fuel in each float bowl - you wont need to remove anything to do that.
2nd) Try and run it with the fuel cap open ( air locked cap? )
3rd) Test the pick up coil?

All these are free and easy to do.

After that its a case of removing the tank and looking at the coils / plugs / leads, bypass the fuel pump if needed.

Only do ONE THING AT A TIME. Keep the batt on charge as well.
