VFR 400 NC30 L "Passing" headlight flasher not working
My bikes "passing" trigger isnt working. I can go hi / low beam on the normal dim bright button so I suspect the contacts in the trigger are not happy - but before I strip it and have what I saw someone call a "pingf$cket"
are there any tricks (little springs) to know about when fixing / stripping this?

There will be one in there somewhere, as it returns the switch to it's normal position. I've never taken the flasher switch apart, so I don't know how easy it is for the spring to escape. My advice would be to get a clear plastic bag, and take it apart inside it, so if the spring does make a bid for freedom, it will be in the bag rather than a case of hearing it land somewhere, and only finding it when you move house... lol

So removed, stripped, cleaned and replaced the unit. Here is what it involved:
Two bolts to remove it from the handle bar, everything is contained so nothing falls out at this stage, then you can strip it based on normal logic, the passing trigger has a spring in it but it is mounted around its axis / hinge point so it cant come out. I checked the contacts and they are all fine (seems a fairly bullet proof design) so probably didnt need to strip it in the first place. I then stripped the hi low dimmer switch because it was sticky, here you have to be careful because there is a spring inside the unit (ie when you open it to get to the internal contacts)... and this dissappeared over my shoulder never to be seen again. Luckily I found a similar spring and all is well. Then I stripped the thumb slide switch (off, park, high) there is a small ball bearing and spring which gives the switch its stages and when you strip the switch the ball bearing pops out and it is pretty much impossible to get back in so you need to put two flat screwdrivers under the thumb slide (on the outside of the housing) and just lever it fairly hard, with some luck it will just pop off (instead of breaking) and the switch can now be completely assembled (ball bearing and all) before it goes back into the housing and then you just press the slide switch back on...
I know thats not the easiest explanation to follow but if you start the job it will make sense.

It seems that my problem is not the flasher unit / passing trigger. I think its either a relay or wrong headlight bulbs? But, I'm going to post that as a separate question / thread
