My NC30 Spring Clean Project

Post by Adderboy » Mon Feb 04, 2013 9:08 pm

The goal : BSB at Oulton Park!

Its one of those random things we all meet up and do every year, and is brilliant fun!
anyway the my nc30 has had a hard winter, it needs a damn good strip clean and a few new bits and bobs dude to the hazards of riding in icy weather
So I need some help with ideas for some nice upgrades and tips on a total strip and rebuild with the realistic target of may bank holiday weekend, any help with the following would be great!
Things I need -
New headlight/nose cone bracket
Fork seals
Round exhaust hanger
Exhaust pipe clip
Rear sets
Levers
Would really like some fibreglass fairing as my type 1 originals are getting more and more damaged and deserve a better home
Rear indicators
R6 rectifier
Powder coat front wheel
New tyres
Possibly new carb slides (or pistons depending on who you ask) as mine are, for lack of a better word, sticking.
New lights all round
And a damn good clean

Thanks in advance for all the help! :rocks:

Any up to 2005 will be fine, after that most R6's (not all) used a 2 plug mosfet reg/rec.

OK next question - share can I source some rvf Carb slides from, new preferably, my carbs are as clean as a whistle, as I stripped them not long ago because of this problem, as you look down the carbs and push back the slides, 2 and 3 were not sticky, but seemed to struggle to slide back as if there was just too much friction between the plastic and the metal housing, stripping and cleaning helped this, however the running issues have slowly returned and I'm suspecting the same issue, I'm hoping the 'sticking' is due to normal wear and tear on the slides? Anyone having similar issues please let me know how to fix it, thanks

This is probably caused by the rubber diaphrams not being as flexible as they once were. Take out the slides and soak them in a container of petrol overnight. This will soften the rubber a lot. When refitted push each one up a few times just to make sure they're operating properly. Try this first.

New carb slides would be very pricey (if you can get them at all). A used set of carbs would be cheaper and that way you would have spares for the future if needed. I have a set of used rvf slides available if you get really stuck.

You can still get new diaphragms. However, you need to be insane, desperate or very wealthy to do so.... A set of four from DSS are a three week wait and will set you back £125.95, EACH!! They're about £15 cheaper from CMS. Would have been a bit more of a saving, but Dutch VAT has gone up from 19 to 21%... :-(
