dumb question....remove spark plugs

Post by jasond »

sorry, I feel less of a man for asking. How on earth do I remove the sparkplugs from my NC29? I've had the fairings off, tank off, top of airbox off, rad moved forward. Just managed to get my hand in & the normal spark plug socket I had dropped straight in. Thought I'd lost it! I'm fairly new to bikes, is there a special tool for this bike?

Just get a socket set extender. I gaffa tape a 10mm socket head to the sparkplug tool I have so I can get the rachet onto it.. easier if you remove the coils as well if its a road bike... (i think)

Remove tank
Airbox
Unbolt coils & unscrew HT leads ( make note of which ht lead goes to which coil/plug FIRST)
Start with the far left first as this ones the hardest.
Pop off the HT lead
Drop the plug socket down the hole
Add the extension bar down & clip in to the socket
Put the ratchet on and loosen a little.
Unhook the ratchet & use fingers to unscrew with extension bar still in place.
Slowly lift the extension bar with fingers (good dexterity needed)
Unhook extension bar from socket with fingers
Lift out the plug.
Repeat in revers to fit a new one.
Same again as above the rest.
Takes me no more than 15 mins to change plugs.

PS I have small hands!!!

Managed it! Mate came over with his socket set as I haven't got a small enough extender bar, but did exactly as above & sorted it. Socket wouldn't grip plugs tho, so used one of those little car-aeriel-pen-things with a small magnet on the end, worked a treat lifting plugs out.
