Hi, I fitted my new rads today and whilst i was doing it i spotted a wire hanging loose!

Anyone know where this should go?
Its on the left side of the bike near the coil pack and is connected at one end to an earth point and the other end, with a ring type connector on the end, is just hanging. I'm marked on the photo where it is and where its hanging.





please note the other 3 wires black coming from the earth point are my RO Earthing kit- they are not standard issue so please ignore them for the purpose of this query!

Is it the earth for the temperature sender? Sometimes they have a bolt on earth instead of earthing to the frame directly.

Dont think so, i've reconnected the temp sender wire to the sensor and the temp gage appears to be working correctly.

The sensor on your rad isn't the temperature gauge, it's your rad fan switch.

It could be your rad fan's ground.

Some people have put a direct path to earth on the rad fan (normally switched) so you can turn it on at will and not wait until the thermostat cuts in. Handy for when you know you are heading into a bit of slow town riding....might be cable from that.

If the bike runs fine and everything functions as advertised.....I wouldn't worry too much

Looks like an aftermarket earth lead.

Either to improve the earthing or something else was using it at one point, perhaps an alarm etc.

I would just remove

Just noticed that it has the full set of extra earth leads installd.. the only stock earth on that bolt is the one that isnt black.

It's not for the rad fan (or at least, not standard), the rad fan earth lead is terminated on one of the rad fan mounts.

If this lead isn't connected to anything else and all your bits and pieces are working correctly, then I agree with Neo, take the thing off, it's just a leftover.
