Bens Race Bike Build / 2015 race season
So i've decided to take the plunge and start racing this year with NG Road Racing!
I bought myself a zxr 400 track bike, and now it just needs prepping, im going to give it a bit of a strip down hopefully not to find some horrors lurking underneath, just to make sure everything is ok and ready to go
Here's how it looked when i picked it up.

It also come with spare fairings, and a ram air kit.
Once i got it home i starting with getting all the stickers off the fairings as they will be getting resprayed before the start of the season (hopefully
)

some were a bit more stubborn than others
then went onto removing the bodywork as the exhaust has a slight blow which i needed to find.

radiatior has been modded to accept ram air kit

Also found the steering damper was fitted so the rod came dangerously close to your knee
, swapped it around, jobs a goodden.

Made a start at sanding the fairing, to be honest i didnt need to take all the paint off so have just keyed up the rest and will get some 600 and 1200 grit on it before its sprayed.

Exhaust has a few blows around the collector area and the can needs cutting down slightly and re-rivetting as its split from a drop.

May be on the lookout for some sort of race system in the near future (micron, BEET etc)
but for now father will weld it up.
So thats it for now, next on the list is to drain coolant and get the rad off for a clean up, so will post updates soon.

Re: Ben Race Bike Build
Hi Ben,
Been watching your thread in racers lounge and been looking forward to you starting this thread.
Looking forward to seeing your progress this year, I'm wanting to start racing mine this year with Wirral 100 and preston district, have to see how funds progress though, i want to try and continue racing MX as well.
Bike looks good though bet you cant wait for the Pembrey test day and brands for the first round.
Has it got the full ram air piped into it, or has it just got the mods ready to take a ram air set up?
Only thing i'd say is please change those grips that came on it, they are rank haha.
Good luck mate I'll be watching.

Re: Ben Race Bike Build

I do have the ram air box with it but it aint fitted, may have a fiddle with it later in the season but it runs nice now and i want as litte hassle as possible for the start of the season.
Haha im on a budget! Cant be worrying about rank grips, if they are grippy they will do for now

I was thinking of maybe setting up a 400greybike championship table in this thread too, i know there are a few guys running in f400 this year so would be fun to have a little championship between us too

I would be carefull with that silencer (Looks short in the pics), as there is a noise limit at each circuit.
Looking forward to the next update.

The exhaust isnt really loud at all, i think its a road legal can as its got a non removable baffle.in it.
Its much quiter than my fzr and thats only got a micron slipon on standard headers.
A lot of guys run full race systems and get by so think i'll be alright.

The standard headers are quiet compared to the aftermarket downpipes, has yours still got the huge baffle in the link pipe? tryed to take mine out on the standard system and they just disintegrated so had to get a new downpipe

Re: Ben's Race Bike Build
Unsure on whether the baffle is in the downpipes or not, i will be getting a race system at some point , just keeping it cheap to start with.
I've cut down the exhaust to get rid of the crash damage, will be re rivetted soon.
