CB 400sf version r 4 piston brake calipers upgrade

Post by tomigun »

Hi
I have a version r and i am thinking to made up an upgrade.I would like to ask you if it is possible and how.
The fork and the calipers that i have is the original version r,i think is the 2piston nissin same with pb1.
Image
I want to change them with the 4 piston nissin calipers like version s fiiiT
Image
Does anybody knows if there are some kind of brackets or adapters for this job,or i must start looking for version s lower fork ??

Well i found out the solution by myself. The 4 piston calipers that i have found is nissin from cbr600f4(1998).

It's the same calipers with first version s fiiiT:

I will use this kind of adapters to fit to my fork:

I forgot to mention that the VTR1000 is equipt with the same calipers.

How about this:

I don't much like brackets and anyway those are really expensive. So why not get Firestorm fork lowers (from lightly bent forks is OK to save cash but not too damaged or the lowers can be damaged too), and just bolt it all together. The lowers fit your stanchions. You'll need a bracket for the mudguard (see below) but everything else will fit.

Those "batman" calipers in your picture are not from a 600f4, but a 92-97 900RR. They are fine, but the gold calipers off a 929/954 or SP1/2 are WAY better and newer and don't suffer much by way of corrosion anyway. The black ones off a 600f4, or the silver ones off a 98-99 900RR are the same but with steel pistons in place of teflon coated alloy.

Firestorm forks with the later calipers need a little dremel action on the legs but it's not a problem. The bat calipers need a 14mm master, the bigger ones a 5/8" master.

I've done all this research myself for my last CB-1 but in the end I fitted fireblade whole front end that came up at silly money.

CB-1 forks with firestorm lowers, CBR400 wheel and discs.

Amorti you are absolutely right. The adapters are too expensive. And i have allready purchase a pair of lower forks of VTR1000f.
Now about the mudguard problem,i think to leave the original mudguard of VTR. :peace:

Happy I could help!

IMHO the VTR mudguard is rough-looking and would be too big for the CB. Going from that picture the bracketry won't be complex to re-use your CB mudguard, this way the colour matches and you save the price of the VTR mudguard.

Thank you for your help. Now about the mudguard.I bought a new one from ebay.uk in a very good price.I purchase it only because i have version r.That with the front fairing:

Perhaps i will have more agressive loolk to my version r,with VTR mudguard. But versions r look is more sport,it is not so classic like pb1 or version s with the cyrcle headlight.
My r could look a little bit better from this r with VTRs mudguard:

I believe they are the same. You can use a cb-1 axle in firestorm forks I think all those are the same.

Some notes:
In VTR1000f lower boots there is no stop pin for the speedometer sensor like souperfour lower boots.
Apparently VTR speedometer cable it take move from elsewhere, perhaps like CB1.
However, my speedometer cable works without stop pin, but if i fall into snagging will probably damage.
I think that I have to mark the correct point and use TIG to made a stopper.
Anyway i like the new look, she is not so original, but i think is more beauty and with better 4 piston nissin brake calipers.
