HRC Temp gauge

To all you HRC experts out there.

Where does the temp sensor, that's attached to the other end of the long lead on the HRC temp gauge, fit into the coolant system?

The sensor appears too long and too large a diameter to fit into the thermostat housing where the standard sender is located. I did see a thread from Martin, where his father fabricated a housing for the HRC sensor to fit onto the front left hand side of the upper rad.

It doesn't appear to give any guidance in the NC30 HRC manual as to where the sensor fits into the coolant system.

The only guidance I can find is in the 1991 RC30 HRC Kit Manual, that says: to use the HRC Water temp Gauge you use Adaptor, Water Temp Sensor 19301 NC7 000.

Does anyone know where Honda Racing expected the sensor end of the temp gauges long lead to be fitted and/or what the RC30's adaptor looks like or where that was fitted?

Any help on any of the above appreciated.

Im 99% sure it goes where martin has his, the HRC rads have provision for this. I have a RC45 HRC temp gauge here which has the same sender unit but its fixed to a alloy T piece which is spliced into a water pipe.

I've just had another look at the NC30 HRC Manual on Block No F7 and it looks like there might be provision for it on the very top of the upper rad on the left hand side as you look at the image. It's only an educated guess though and of course you need original HRC rads!!
I like the sound of the alloy T piece spliced into a water pipe though that saves drilling holes in good rads and whilst Martins solution worked I did wonder how he got on re-fitting his side and front V panels?
Is there any chance you could post a picture of the RC45 solution?

Boom - thread bump!

Anyone know what the thread size and pitch is? I'm pretty sure it is M18x1.5 but would love someone to confirm as I don't have my gauge handy to check

Cheers
Luke

Yes 18x1.5 and can fit into fan switch thread(some aftermarket rads have this size,as mine does)...

Yep, just like the one I made from a 22mm plumbing Tee piece and a brass nut.

I'll try to find a picture and post it up here -

If you zoom in, you can see the Tee piece.
The HRC sensor is screwed into the horizontal arm on the RHS behind the fairing.
