Re: Float bowl gaskets 3tj2 sp
The genuine yamaha part number for the float bowl gasket is 3GM-14997-00. Might be just called "O ring" on yamahas system.

Re: Float bowl gaskets 3tj2 sp
Nitrile o-rings have a shelf life of 15 years. see SAE ARP5316
That is not service life.
Considering the age of the motorcycle it would be prudent to replace all carburettor seals and gaskets.

Re: Float bowl gaskets 3tj2 sp
HD you are too quick
Thanks for the plug, but I do not have the complete kit ready yet. That link to one of my my carb pages is not actually accessible unless you happen to know the URL.
I almost have the 'A' kit ready for the Yamahas. The float bowls seals arrived yesterday and they are excellent but the Jet Housing seal is a little off, and I am going to have a new mould done. As soon as I have the new Jet Housing Seals then I will begin to sell the 'A' kits.
My supplier hates me because my tolerance is so small but there is a reason for that. The slide housing and the jet housing are squeezed together by the fastening of the needle jet fixing screw. On both sides there are seals, on the top is the o-ring that resides under the slide housing, and on the bottom is the jet housing seal. The thickness of these seals is quite critical. Although you may find posts (I have seen many) that say something like "just buy this (wrong size) o-ring at your local store" it is not a good idea. A carburettor is not a lawn sprinkler. I have also seen posts that suggest that Mikuni use the wrong size o-rings and that 'this one is better'. Unless such statements are supported by facts, I would take them with a grain of salt and consider that the engineers at Mikuni may know more than the anonymous poster. It is not my intention to offend anyone by making these observations. In the case of o-rings there may be many cases where a close substitute may work. However, as someone who is trying to establish a business by supplying quality parts I cannot afford the luxury of 'maybe'.
Also I am not sure whether the poster has the BDST vacuum carbs or the flat slides. I didn't know there was a 3TJ2 SP.
cheers
Blair

Look in the manuals part of the forum .... go from the front page and find the 3TJ setup manual, it's for a 3TJ2
