Rear light unit fixing.....

Post by bikemonkey » Thu Oct 04, 2012 2:10 pm

I'm doing a mod to my rear light unit and used my spare one to mod, only to now notice when going to hook it all up that it doesn't have the same fixings as the one currently on my bike.

Piccys to explain:

The metal bracket is the only thing holding the rear light unit in place on my aftermarket fibreglass fairings, so it's kind of needed....

Did anyone know there were two different types of light unit for the NC30?

Plus can anyone help on how to fix it up without tearing apart another unit?

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that what you have on the left is an NC35 unit, and the other is an NC30 one. The fiche isn't too clear, but the NC30 has an arrangement with the long bar under the unit, the NC35 doesn't have this bar but has two brackets that mount either side instead. I guess you could get creative, but it would probably be easier to look for another NC30 light instead..... The top mounting lug on the light units appears the same if not very similar, but I'm not really sure how the bottom half of the arrangement compares.

Hmm, guess I should be a bit more vigilant when buying on eBay.

Got the light unit as part of a load of NC30 fairings, so I have no idea what was going on there......

Ugh what a pig, it's all ready to go on, or was.

There's a pukka NC30 light unit for £30 on eBay, and someone is selling a tail unit including light and fittings for £20 on a pickup only basis (and it's rather a way from you!).

Aye, your modded one is an NC35 unit :peace:

Bottom left of bottom pic and a bit above on the left edge - is that both halves of an alternator connector I spy? If so, where did you get it from?

S**t. Right well it's either £30, a good search for a cheaper one or hack up my current one.

Either way it's another half hour of painstakingly prising the lens off the back cover, arse arse arse.

Thanks for the help though :rocks:

If I'd known I could have saved you a load of hassle. I've just sold my last two NC30 LED rear lamps.

I agree, removing the lens is a bitch of a job. Best option I found is gentle heat concentrated on the area to soften the mastic then pull apart and slice through with a knife :peace:

Cheers for that tip, will help, I struggled using just a knife and a plastic ruler.

I cut around the lens with the knife and just slowly prised it up with my hands and the ruler.

It's just annoying that I've got this far with it and a simple error has stopped me.
