New (to me!) 1987 Genesis

I picked this up on Wednesday-



It's a 1987 1WG and it set me back the grand total of £156

I've had a quick nosey around it and the rearsets look like 3TJ ones-



Is this normal? I'm not as familiar with these as I am with the later ones.

Anyhoo, it all looks ok apart from the red anodised bits and the fibreglass fairing. It looks as if it's seen a bit of action as both engine side covers have been 'fixed' and painted, but the frame is spotless and it goes and stops ok which is the main thing and the exhaust is stainless (possibly cut and shut from something else). For £150 you can't really grumble, can you? I love the little 'speed' light on the clocks! I have to say, I'm rather taken with the little thing.

Our plan is to stick an MOT on it and enjoy it, then sort the 18" wheel out when the tyre needs to be replaced

Looks like you don't have an exup on the exhaust

Check that back wheel as the E2 came with a 17" rim

That site's wrong, all the pre-3TJ bikes had the same 18" wheel and I think the early 1WGs came without the exup too (which is no bad thing, there's less to look after!)

It failed its MOT on a leaky fork seal and a gammy rear brake. Meh. Fetch me the hammer

There's a decent pair of BT92s on it too in NC30 sizes- if I play my cards right the bike could end up owing me nothing!

I hope you have deep pockets for that KR1 project Mark!

Kayla I must have been in the process of editing my post when you posted

I thought it was wrong about the rear wheel and checked elsewhere incase it was done for that model only

For some reason I put E2 (I'll blame in on the fact that I had been posting about my ZZR elsewhere)

And yeh it is a big bonus not having to worry about an exup system

Well I won this at auction and picked it up Saturday in a snowstorm.
What a cracking bike with loads of potential.
Has a much improved front end conversion and even better a 17" wheel/alloy s/a conversion.
This has been done VERY professionally and I am much impressed which is a rarety these days!!!

I also visited the workshop /shop and engineering facilities of Projection Components whilst I collected it and was shown the set-up and how the company operated.
Kayla,by the way, does all the C.A.D. operation and vectoring herself !!!
This is one of the most refreshing enterprises I have been fortunate enough to encounter in over 40 years of motorcycle ownership and I have worked for main dealers and been employed by international race teams.!!!
I already was aware of how knowledgable Kayla was but found she was even more experieced and astute than I expected. Her partner who is workshop foreman is a very skilled and experienced mechanic and an expert in conversions and upgrades.
Whilst there another customer arrived to collect a 400SP that had had the Brembo rear caliper upgrade on his
Manx TT race bike and he was also much impressed with the workmanship.

The point of this is : This is a British engineering and fabrication enterprise with absolutely massive potential and thoroughly deserves your support. If you often, as I do, hunt for parts and find your money is going to a foreign industry then think for a moment about your home market; who in this case are more than competitive.
I cannot stress enough how important this is with engineering skills at this level being at a premium at present.

Now some may say this is a simple rant to help a pal out!

The only contact I have had with this company is through this forum except for the motorcycle auction.

When Kayla replies to a technical question on this forum I already prick my ears up but will do so even more after encountering the depth of her knowledge first hand.

May I once again thank this company for such an informative and helpful encounter.
