front brake pads
cbr400 rrj - can you recommend some front brake pads for street use with a few track days added into the mix.
I am getting confused with the gg, hh, standard and sintered descriptions. Not so much confused actually, i have no idea what they are on about.
Thanks

Re: front brake pads
I've used carbone Lorraine SBK sintered and they were great but they are exspensive I'm using EBC sintered at the moment and they are just as good IMO and a damn sight cheaper.
Mine is all track use and I have EBC discs.

I don't think you can much beat these ones for life, disc wear, wet and dry performance.

Re: front brake pads
+1 for the genuine Honda pads - I use them in my NC29 race bike - have not found anything better

Re: front brake pads
EBC are fine. I have used these as a cheaper option and they are easy to get.
Goldfren/Armstrong etc. These are ok. Initially they feel as good as anything but that soon wears off. They are not bad pads. I had some armstrong in my ZX6 for about 2 months as they were all I could get on the day for its MOT.
My preferred choices for all my bikes are Carbon Lorraine or SBK with SBK seeming to have more suppliers.
You want HH rated or similar.
GG are ok for rear but will be useless on the front.

Re: front brake pads
limited funds meant i went for ebc HH at £40 posted
Will be interesting to see what they are like. Went out on my bike today for a bit and i am sure the front brake is rubbing, sound goes away when i brake so its brake related, hopefully a good clean will sort them when i change the pads, cant ride it like it is anyway as its not giving me much confidence.

Re: front brake pads
the right hand pad seemed to be worn unevenly, so maybe that was the issue - had to push the pistons in and that was hard work, are they supposed to be so tight!
I just pressed the pistons in (using a car jack actually as i couldnt find my g clamp) and squeezed them back out a few times with the lever, hopefully that will sort whatever was happening with the right hand caliper - i assume a piston was sticking. I only overhauled them 12 months ago but in the year i have only done about 300 miles in total so maybe lack of use had made it stick.
