Engine Rebuild

I am at the point of rebuilding my engine.

A brief history - As I was riding along the bike started rattling alot, lost power, but no smoke or fumes from the exhaust.

Got the bike home, took the engine out and placed it to one one side.

Sourced another engine which just needed a gasket set and would be ready to go.

I wanted to make sure all is good with the engine so stripped it right down, to examine and measure all parts.

I am now at the stage where it has been degreased, cleaned and is ready to go back together.

Anyone got any suggestions of 'Do's and Don'ts' or things to consider as it goes back together?

I have the GSXR flywheel kit to fit from my old engine, but other than that no upgrades. I don't want to go spending loads of money on it - I just want to get out and ride again!!!

have a swear box ready, a box of elastoplast and a cat ready to kick when you get REALLY pi$$ed off!

Just make sure you grease things like the shells etc and don't put the hylomar over holes when putting the casings back together. i don't need to tell you but personally I'd replace the gearbox shaft seal and the push rod one as a matter of course to prevent you wishing you'd done it before.

Aye, it's worth replacing all "consumables" like seals while the engine is out

yep if its full stripped replace the output shaft seal and pushrod seal.

dont forget to put some appropriate spec moly grease on the camshaft bearing surfaces and everywhere else it goes.

Apart from that double check everythin gbefore you tighten and take your time and you should be good to go.

Better to finish a day late and have a working engine than rush to finish early and buggar the engine up.
