Doesn't the HRC NC30 setup have a drilled airbox base?

Good point! Well it has the rounded sliders and the shorter velocity stacks at least.

I'm curious to know if there is any real difference between the HRC stacks and a cut down set that have been nicely radiused (like what I have).
I do love the sound of our track NC35 as the induction noise is *FAB*.

The drilled carb bracket is a DIY job - not everyone does it. There is a huge difference between cut-down standard stacks and the HRC items. Mainly the absence of the shroud that covers the main air jet. If you cut down standard stacks, you have to restrict the main air jet or it'll run very poorly up top. The HRC stacks also sit much flusher to the carb bracket for effficient airflow. Strange that the metal washer thingies on the bracket haven't been removed.

Yes it is but it's also part of the HRC manual for the VFR400superlite wrote:The drilled carb bracket is a DIY job - not everyone does it.
<shrug> I shall have to see if ours has the main air jet restricted or not, it's certainly got cut down std stacks and runs rather nicely up top! I suspect you are right and the HRC ones would be better but I'm curious to know how much by. I'm not about to buy some (if you still can) just to find out though! There is a huge difference between cut-down standard stacks and the HRC items. Looks like they've swapped the bolts for stainless though and reused/replaced the lock tabs.Strange that the metal washer thingies on the bracket haven't been removed.

They're unobtanium. When they do turn up on eBay or Yahoo Japan, they always end early.I'm not about to buy some (if you still can) just to find out though!
There's not going to be a noticible difference in performance between HRC stacks and cut-down stacks. It's easier to set up the HRC stacks though because you don't have to worry about the airjet. I'm talking in terms of full HRC spec set-up. Got no idea how they would work if used with an airbox/filter standard jetting/needles etc.

Re: NC30 HRC Carbs on eBay
Yes, I have full hrc carbs, this is why the hrc velocity stacks are important.superlite wrote:If you cut down standard stacks, you have to restrict the main air jet or it'll run very poorly up top.
Without the hrc stacks you can always jet it big up top to run fine, but the midrange will suffer without fine tuning of the air jet because there is too big a transitional period between the needles and main jets.
If you want to run an open airbox without the hrc velocity stacks then reducing the air jets is necesary. Rvf carbs don't require this so much.
